So I like driving up snow in parking lots and making spots out of where they plow because I'm immature...however yesterday I noticed that the skid on my westin bull bar was a pretty bent. It popped right back into place with a little force, but I'm concerned about it bended up into my number and causing some real damage. It's very flimsy and obviously not intended to support any weight, so I feel like it would be better to just take it off. Do you guys know if the skid plate on this bull bar can be detached?

Here's a picture with the bull bar I'm talking about.IMG_0187.jpg

Why are you even running a bull bar in the first place? :boink:

I took mine off. No problems. I think it looks much better without it actually. Now I just gotta save for a real bumper and get rid of my bull bar

Lol I ask myself the same thing everyday...I wanted to mount some lights on it when I first got the truck bit I don't think I'll end up doing that at least for the moment. I'm not running the truck off-road really, I just mess around a little bit, I probably should just take it off. Eventually I want to get a real bumper but that's out of the budget right now haha.

Yeah I get that, and I really haven't run into any issues running it. But I guess the bottom line is that I should just take it off.

I understand, one of those spur of the moment decisions. I never bought one, but came close whenever I first got the truck. Glad I opted out though.

I ran a thread here about 3 months ago about cheap brush guards and bull bars. The overwhelming answer was avoid them at all cost because they are so flimsy and will bend inwards under the lightest stress. Many here told stories of bending their bars from nothing more than the smallest impact. Im glad I didn't buy one as I finally got to see one installed on a SUV, up close last week. It looks like 3/16th sheet steel is all that bolts the Westin models to the frame.

Hotdogging in snowy parking lots is not immature. Its an invaluable tool to learn how your vehicle handles in panic conditions. (Thats what I always tell my wife when Im doing donuts and parking brake slides)

Yeah I wish I had, the truck was gifted to me by my parents :)crapstorm:) And when I was researching the truck, I really liked the look, now I'm not so into it, but I know my dad won't be very happy with me if I take off the bar or the pen step rails I have right now.
Glad someone else shares my logic.

bully bull bar, halo/angle eye headlights, 20" cree led light bar mounted on bull bar. 42" radius light bar from extreme LEDs 2 led pods, Spare tire mount on bed
Have mine just for looks and to hold a light bar, until I can afford a real bumper also. And it was on the truck when I bought it so no money lost there. I also almost did the same thing pulling someone out of a ditch but turned around and used the back of my truck. Got to use that college education somehow. It didn't get me anything else other than a huge payment every month.

I still like my bull bar :(

I know it isn't for anything other than aesthetics and holding my LED lights though.
