2016 Tacoma OR Tire Choices

I already got two flat tires on my Tacoma and thinking about switching it to a different tires. Anyone running Duratrac on their Tacoma's? Any feedback?

 

On road: MS2s. Off road: KO2s. Several opinions on this subject. Another might be Firestone Destination ATs. There'll be some guys with more experience than I have along in a moment. Good luck.

 

I just installed Duratracs this morning. I used them on my 2007 with no issues. Some complain about side wall issues. I used them hard in the past (overland offroading in Nevada) and have not had an issue. These are 265/75-16. Load range c for a little mileage help. Duratracs are a little noisy but are magic in the snow and ice.

 

How did you flat the tires?

 

Im putting ST MAXX's on my OR tomorrow.

 

Got flats on OEM GY tires driving through off road and bunch of rocks. The rubber seems they are much softer and rocks sticky to the thread quite a bit. Duratrac on the quicksand Tacoma looks great! Makes the truck look different IMO.

 

Shame on Toyota for putting passenger car tires on a truck - Guess they are banking on the fact that the majority of owners don't go off road and prefer quiet rides. I drive on gravel/mountain roads for work all the time. Run Toyo AT's in summer and MT's in winter - 10 ply LT's. Prefer some noise of flats

I had the dealer change the tires as part of the deal. Had them changed to BF AT KO2s in stock size P265/70R16 and we haven't noticed any increased road noise. Maybe its me but it feels as though they ride better than the stock Goodyears. We've been keeping tabs on fuel mileage in the city and its averaging 18.1. They look good too. The KO2s have an increased tread life over the original KOs, by a considerable amount from what I understand, thicker sidewalls, and a more aggressive look.

 

I've had bicycle tires with more sidewall material in them.
It feels nickel-thick up by the shoulder.

 

Dang KO2 are looking sweet too. Torn between Duratracs and KO2. I would hate to get flat tires the third time!

 

As tough as the ko2 looks, I too agree the ride is very comfortable and quiet. If the wear is suppose to be better then ko. Then the expected mileage should be about 60+ k miles for the ko2...

 

My BFG AT KO's were great on and off road. I have high expectations for the new KO2.
I ran my Raptor hard in Utah and Alberta and they've held up awesome. I think you won't be disappointed.

 

How did you flat the tires?

 

I enjoy my Duratracs except for the noise and the noticeable under-steer. Tread life is excellent and you really can't beat them in the snow. The set on my '03 has well beyond 50K miles and they are still 50%+ on tread depth. I imagine they will wear a little more quickly on your gen 3 simply due to your truck's weight.

 

Put the Duratrac 265/70-16's on. Getting terrible wear on rear tires. Stock tires show the same issue. I am told that dealer even changed a tire before I got the truck. Sold Toyotas for a while so I figured I better look under the truck. Looks like they swapped the spare....

Might try Dick Cepek Mud Country. Had them on my Xterra and was very pleased, got 50k on them, better in snow than the Duratrac, slightly louder, stiffer sidewall at operating pressures, comfortable at 25psi on the dirt.

 

Thoughts on the Cooper AT3s? I'd like to get something that is not too aggressive (tread wise) for better gas mileage but is also somewhat capable on mild off roading.
