I know there's a few of them on here somewhere. I'm a volunteer with the City of Dos Palos and a PCF with Merced County.

Ya the application process sucks, but its worth it. The money is great. Make sure you go visit stations and talk to captains and engineers.

Ya, apply everywhere. I dont know about down there but I know up here in the north CAL FIRE only has the inmate hand crews. If they have extra firefighters on a staffing pattern they will turn them into a hand crew. Are you applying for you forest service?

Hello. Not Cal Fire exactly but am a full time FF/PM in a state contract county. Close enough! :)

Not completely useless but it def. makes you more marketable...Get that cert. asap. I got mine a year ago and got offered 3 positions. I decided to continue my career in land use planning instead of working for the state seasonally because I found out my wife and I were going to have a baby back then.

Ya you gotta do whatever you can do to get that cert. If you have to drive to get it, its gonna make it worth it in the long run.
