Day after Thanksgiving half marathon in the books. 19 degrees with ice and snow on lots of the trail and I managed my 3rd best, and overall win, at 1:37:08. Not bad for 47 and crap for training.

    Very nice - congrats!

I'd love to work up to a marathon - I have a lot of respect for guys who put in the work and time for that.

Half marathon tomorrow. I'll let you guys know how I do.

Half marathon completed this morning. 2:02 @ 6,000ft. Not stellar, but at 6,000ft, I'm satisfied with it.

Stuffed my face afterwards, and now have been almost falling asleep all day haha.

That's a pretty impressive time. Was there a lot of elevation change on those trails?

I'm just trying to get myself motivated to start training again after a couple of disappointing races this past year.

Thanks. Very little elevation change, 217' is all.

It's always tough, do you have any running clubs in the area that run regularly? There are tons around me, all free, people are always running and I find that when I am struggling to be motivated running with friends really helps.

    Same as everybody else...
Hey Guys, I just stumbled into this thread. I'm a tic tac short of 57 yra old and was very overweight combined with a lousy diet when I decided to turn it around about 5 years ago. I started running and biking and dropped a lot of the crap processed foods out and went from 290#s to 217#'s. My goal was to run a half marathon which I did in May. Since then I have been in a rut, no desire really to run at all. I'm trying to get back into it with no luck. Has this happened to you and what can I do to turn it around? I still run but I have to push myself.

Hey brother! First off, congrats on turning yourself around - that's more than 99% of America can claim, so you should be very proud of that.

Running-wise, when I'm in a rut, honestly I'll just take some time off and do something else enjoyable. I'll bike, try out an elliptical, get into swimming, rowing, or just getting outside in general. I try to do something else until that 'itch' to run comes back. Not that you always have to completely enjoy running - b/c there are times that I hate it - but I always finding myself coming back around to it.

Let us know how things go!

This is one of the things that keeps me going, signing up for races really helps. Like I said in the post just above yours, finding a local running club can really help. There are lots of social running clubs all over the place, admittedly some are about meeting at a bar and an excuse to drink beer after running 3 miles, there are plenty that either run longer or are splinter groups that run long on their own.

I'm going to start signing up for races and find a club or two. Normally, I think it' silly to pay someone else to be able to run, but I'm starting to see some of the allure of it now.

The races help but I get it, paying to run, often in places you probably already run seems a bit odd. Clubs should be free though!

Hope you start feeling better fast!

A friend of mine just got some stuff from Territory Run Co. I need to look into this I think.

im determined to have a better 50 in Folsom with the AR50. any others attending? aside from that race and probably the MCM (if im in the states) 2016 is the year of the half marathon for me. im going to see how much more time i can take off my current best. since the wife officially flies for United now cost has been significantly reduced.

what are some of your favorite halfs??

It's nice to hear from a fellow ultra runner out here. I'm currently contemplating signing up for the Leadville lottery. If I get in, I'll probably be signing up for a couple 50's and 100k's for training. Probably not AR50, due to the flat terrain, but we'll see what I can fit in my schedule. Other than that, I'm in for the Huntington beach and OC Marathons. Then I'll do the Long Beach bike/run combo to finish up the Beach cities challenge. I'm also looking at attempting an iron distance tri this year, but we'll see how things go. It's looking like a pretty ambitious year.

ill be at the OC but running the half instead. i just cannot suffer at the hands of the marathon anymore. (except my annual pilgrimage to DC for the MCM). idk why i cant run huntington if they have a half.. i live in the area.

edit: i assume by huntington beach you meant surf city? ill definitely still be in afghanistan for that.

I swore I was done with ever doing another ultra but I read stuff here and some of my friends run a lot of them so I am committed (which I think is the right word :p) to doing the rim to rim to rim. It wont be until 2017 unfortunately since I will be gone 6+ months next year. Still figured I would put it on my list and it will get done. I already have 3 others that will do the road trip down and the run, they are the types that if they say they will go, even this far out, it's a done deal. Meanwhile, next spring I think I have decided to do a local 50k (Spokane River Run) before I head out for my 6 month trip as I like to call it.
