The v6 seems to be between 6.8 and 7.1. Anyone seen any numbers or did a test of their own for the 4 cyl? I'm trying to get an idea of the difference in acceleration.

I probably would be getting the auto. As long as it gets up to speed faster than an automatic Yaris, I would be good with that

The Yaris is surprising quick up to 40 mph. It would beat this pig up to there. I would guess the zero to sixty times are measured in units other then seconds.......
159 hp and all the weight of an access cab with an auto ? Bring a donut and cup of Joe while you're waiting, and waiting and.....

As long as you have 2 wd, overall, my 4 four cylinder Toyota trucks have been acceptable. I don't doubt yours is the same. In 4 wd, it was a different story.

It depends on your demands. In the old days, going from 0 to 60 in 11 seconds was acceptable when competing with lighter traffic that goes from 0 to 60 in 10 seconds. Now, even a Prius will kick your butt off the line and a line of semis you want to fit between in an on ramp with lots of traffic is a death wish.

My 2.7 with ECT engaged is just fine, without it a little sluggish but mpg is about 23 to 25 ! So you can have it both ways, going over 400 miles between fill ups , pretty amazing and with 6 speed auto !

Somehow I haven't run into any life threatening situations with my 5-lug I4 manual AC, if you need more power to negotiate traffic you are doing it wrong.

OP I'd recommend the stick for a little better acceleration

I have a reg cab 2.7 and even with bigger tires (235/75/15) for a 5 lug it's got plenty of get up and its an automatic.

For those of you saying the power is fine, is yours a 2wd or 4wd model?

I have a regular cab 4X4 with the 2.7. It sure won't win any speed tests but it does OK. If you need it to actually get going you have to rev it up to around 4000rpm which I really never have any reason to do but have just for fun. Once it's in it's powerband which is way up there it actually gets down the road fairly well. The biggest problem with accelerating fast is that the 5 speed doesn't like to be shifted fast. Unless you like grinding gears. The transmission is probably a bigger problem than the anemic engine.

The 4 cyl are made for getting from point A to point B and crawling around on dirt roads not racing around town. If you use it for what it was made for they are fine.

I've clocked mine in at 13 ish seconds (don't remember the exact number). I imagine a stock truck might be a little faster. I have 300lbs worth of armor and a E rated 32.5's so that's not helping the time. The 2.7 isn't a speed queen, off road, however it can keep up with the best of them.

I must assume that the 4x4 5-speed is different than the 5-lug then. I have no issues with shifting my 5-lug, including downshifting into 1st at 10-15, which I don't normally do but have just to test after others talk about it being impossible unless almost stopped?

I have the 2.7 cyl 4x2. With ect on. I felt like the acceleration was more then acceptable for a 4cyl truck. I will say with a v6, the low end accel is nice, when you WOT, you feel a harder instant pull but after that, the accell doesn't seem that much faster.

I find myself getting to the ranges of 4-5k rpm very frequently. Atleast for the first 2 gears. I don't like to speed anymore but I atleast get it up to speed limit quickly.

Not sure a 4 banger Tacoma can actually even look like it is in a "drag Race" Maybe if featured in the Gay Pride parade.
