    That's good to know.

I won't be getting the full set until mid next year. I'm going to Baja for Christmas and thought it'd be a good idea to have a second spare. So next year when I replace my current tires I just need four more and I'll keep this one as my spare and rotate it in. By that point I'll have a compact car as a daily driver and I'll park the truck.

Had the frame inspected at the dealership today.. It passed. :(. Service guy said, "man it looks immaculate under there", guess that's both good and bad.. Soo I've got 6 months left under the warrantee then I'm on my own

Well if you're banking on getting the frame replaced before your time is up, you may have luck on your side. Winter is coming. If you'd rather let it rust badly and get it replaced, rather than take care of what you have, just make sure not to wash your truck at all during Winter, and always drive during/after they salt/brine the roads.

But if your frame is really that good, it seems silly to worry about the replacement deadline. Just do preventive maintenance before each Winter and keep it going strong.

Haha yeah I'm kinda OCD with all my installs. And I do have power windows but the viper doesn't control those unless it's a standard "Auxiliary Feature" that comes factory:notsure: so I just use the standard security features and remote start. Installed a manual clutch bypass switch as well

With my luck, I'd let it rust like crazy this winter, pass the final inspection in May, then find a gaping fuckin hole come June!

Soo I'll just treat the rust I have for now (primarily around the passenger side gas tank crossmember) spray it with Rustoleum rust converter/topcoat, and hit it with some undercoating or Fluid Film. Once the warranty is over I'll pull the bed, wire wheel it, weld in some reinforcements and box the rear of the frame, then paint with something high quality.

I don't ever plan on getting rid of the truck so I will definitely continue to take good care of her.. Would be nice to get a totally new frame on their dime, but guess I got one of the good ones so I should be thankful for that!

Yeah most likely. Why should it work out so you benefit? That almost never happens with important things.

You do that and it should be without issue. Especially if the frame is good enough to pass the test currently. And since you live in NJ, it's impressive that you still pass.

Not a clue if mine would pass, since it was never brought it, so it doesn't matter now. Overall, though, it looks good. The PO said he tried to keep up on it. Seems he did a pretty good job. I wanted to remove the bed this weekend and take care of it before the Winter, but that didn't work out.

Yea I'm kinda surprised it looks as good as it does. It spent its first 10 yrs near the beach in LI, then the past 5 up in Sussex County, NJ. I've taken good care of it, as did the PO, but honestly I feel that the undercoating that my local dealer did to it back in Dec 2011 has certainly done its job and I've been really happy with the results

Salty beach air and salty Winters? Perhaps things really have worked out in your favor. As long as you keep up it, there's little reason to think it'll start going to shit now.

How much did the dealer charge you?

Yea no kidding! Like I said I should consider myself lucky for sure. I lost my '97 to rust, but Toyota did the buy back and that's how I landed in my '01

No charge for the undercoating. It was part of the Rust Prevention campaign for the 'affected VINs' that has since ended. Idk if you can still get the same product applied by them (I don't see why not, but just don't know). I had it done by Toyota World of Newton. Good folks. They've always been good to me (2 corollas, 2 Tacos), my dad's 07 Taco, my wife's '12 Corolla, and my moms old Rav4.

I scoped out a couple DC '16s while I was waiting too. I gotta be honest they were pretty nice. :crapstorm: One Inferno and one Mag Grey. TRD, moonroof, accessories. Very nice interiors/dash IMO

Your Tacos like a Phoenix. One crumbled to its death but was reborn as a newer, better one!

Ah, I see. I'd imagine that had to have been done before the 2012 deadline for inspections. I suppose it's worth asking, but I doubt there's anything they will do. At least free of charge. When I do go to a dealership, it's Towne Toyota in Roxbury. Just because it's closer. But next time I need something at a dealer, I might head to Newton. I do like Newton.

I don't think I've seen a 3rd gen in person yet, but they really don't seem bad from what I've read/seen online. I do, however, have a general disdain for newer vehicles. The newer it is, the more it's been bullied by agencies and governments to meet countless requirements.

    Haha nice analogy!!

If it's available, I'm sure they'll charge you lol, but it's worth a call. Others have complained that their undercoating flaked off and didn't last but I have been real happy with mine.

Yea another case of 'they don't make em like they used to'. Sharp lookin ride though

I just remembered that I believe I heard one guy at the Roxbury location talking to a lady on the phone saying that they send undercoating jobs to Newton anyway. So I'd just head there to check. The service is indeed available. It's probably stupid expensive though. I already have stuff at home, but it's getting too cold for it to work as well. And because I work overnights, and it's this half of DST, I don't really have much daylight to work with except on off days. But my sleep schedule doesn't really allow for me to get up in the early hours on off days. It's proving difficult to find a time to do it myself right now.

Yeah it would seem that way. Not that new cars are total shit; they're not. Hell, even my 2004 Taco is way more electrical than I would have imagined. It's just that I read about the standards and regulations in the past few years and I can't help but not want a car made in the last few years. Maybe I'm just irrational.

Rolled it three times on ice coming back from CO. We had just crossed over TX border from NM. TX ran out of sand and didn't post any signs or cops. I was driving about 40 after having good road conditions in NM. Kids and GF in back were unharmed. I got to eat glass and got 14 staples on head. I got knocked out for a little. A very brave nurse stopped and helped until DPS and ambulance arrived. Truck is probably totalled. It did its job. We are extremely grateful our little boys of 8 and 1yr were unharmed.

Wow, another rollover. Bad luck for Tacos lately. Shame about the truck, but that matters so little. It's amazing that everyone was unharmed, especially the children. That's (relatively) great news. 14 staples though. That's pretty serious, man. Seems you're alright, though. Glad to hear it turned out well, overall.

    RIP Tacoma.
