6sp vs auto service cost

Anyone happen to know the difference between the two trannies in service cost? I also have a VW, and my manual 20k service is 500$ total, whereas the auto is 800+$. Was curious if its the same with our trucks.

 

Are you really asking about the cost of different types of Trannies? That could get out of hand quickly.

 

He's talking about a fluid service I believe. Like the scheduled maintenance cost to have it serviced.

 

Oh.....I guess I was thinking of Trannies.....need to get my mind out of the gutter.

 

They need upkeep too. I've found it cheaper to do it myself

 

Call Toyota and ask. I doubt any of us have made it that far in miles yet. Should be cheaper than a VW

 

I've always had standards, and I want one again. I'm fussing between the the 4 runner and tacoma off-road. With the tacoma, if I get an AC it only comes in auto, but if I get a DC, it comes in standard. So I was just curious if the cost was significant. I was shocked when I walked into the VW dealer and they told me the difference. Can't wait to dump that POS.

 

All the newer Toyotas and Lexus automatics use whats called world standard fluid in the automatics. This fluid isn't changed as often as older type fluids. It's probably not even recommended in the service maintenance guide in your owners manual. Thats also why you won't find a dip stick for our auto tranny.

Dude, you have no idea...it's a golf diesel. I'm so screwed with this car it's not even funny. No dealer will touch it to trade in.

Screw them, My friend has a 15 Jetta diesel, loves it....doesn't give a shit about the VW drama & will drive it into the ground.

 

I'm not overly impressed with the car. It's ok. But the fix they're pushing is a urea tank, which is EXACTLY the reason I bought a '14. I didn't want one. So i'll probably end up suing them to get fair value before this thing dropped and call it a day. The MPG is crazy, I've hit 54 MPG. I drove from shelton CT to acadia national park in maine on a little over half a tank. That part was cool. But it's built like shit, and little things go wrong with it. It just doesn't instill long term confidence. Not like my tacoma does.

 

Of you know how to drive a manual is cheaper in the long run. Fluid change every 30k 3.5qt no big deal.

I never replaced a clutch on any of my tacomas. They all had about 175k on them when I got ride of them.

 

500?! thats an hour of work at a shop with their tools. Drain trans, fill it, adjust clutch? Maybe grease u joints if they have a grease point.

Sounds like the 350 differential service I was given.

 

Just do your own service.

 

Changing fluids on either transmission should not cost more than $200
a manual transmission only requires a drain and fill. Automatic Transmission requires replacing or cleaning of a filter and replacing the fluids. (depending on filter style) Sounds like you are getting ripped off by the VW stealership.
