Hey all, long time no wheel.

My family and I have finally gotten settled into our new house so I should finally have some free time. We've been going up to the Jemez for our Christmas trees the last two years and I've found some pretty good spots with lots of smaller trees (<8 feet tall).

I'm up for a group excursion, although I think the Dec 5-6 would probably be a little early to harvest a tree. It would be pretty dried out by Christmas, and those things become a fire hazard when they get too dry, not to mention they shed all their needles and make a huge mess. We usually go 7-10 days before Christmas so the tree stays fresh right through trash day the week after.

For anyone wanting to go solo, or on the weekend of the 5th-6th, take 550 NW out of Bernalillo to San Ysidro, then head north on NM 4 to Jemez Pueblo. As you drop down the hill into the area with all the red rock (where they have the fry bread stands), look to your left for the Walatowa Visitor Center. Pull in there to buy your tree cutting permit for $10, and pick up a map of the designated cutting areas.

See this link for info on the permits, addresses/phones of vendors, and .pdf maps of the cutting areas: http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/santafe/news-events/?cid=FSEPRD480350

After that, just head up and get your tree. You have to attach the tag to the tree BEFORE you cut the tree. This is supposed to prevent people from harvesting multiple trees... ie... "hey, that one looks a little nicer, lets ditch this one and get that one instead."

Make sure you take good waterproof boots, warm clothes, and some emergency gear / water / food in case you get stuck. Some of the areas on the map are remote and may not see much traffic, and there can be surprise areas of deep snow at higher elevations.

The areas at lower elevations will have mostly young ponderosa pines, which do not make for great Christmas trees. You'll want to find the areas with Spruce, which have denser branches and needles and a more triangular shape. Look for areas above 9K feet.

    Hope that helps.

I have been sending messages to everyone I know and it has been suggested to post in here as well. I would appreciate if you guys could keep an eye out for me as well. On Wednesday night someone stole my 50"(288w) curved light bar off my truck near Alvarado Park(San Mateo/Indian school area) Below are a couple pictures, It is one of 2 in the world with the ".com" on the logo(on both sides.). The other light bar with the ".com" lives in NJ so it can't be mistaken here in NM... the lens is tinted(15%). If you have any information please pm me, Thank you so much.

Not really, tint and the logo. I put weather strips in the bottom few slits and every 6-12" in all the other slits had pieces of weather stripping. I scratched the bottom of the light bar when I was mocking it up(hard to see unless it's off) I'll see if I have pictures of that later but I don't think I have a picture of that though

The end caps look like it but no. One other thing I forgot(that ad reminded me) was I left 4 bolts off(I think 4, I'll look when I get home since I still have the bolts)of it when I tinted it. You'd have to get pretty close to see them missing because the scratch marks make it look like they are still on it....

For those that are looking for it. PLEASE just keep in mind that we (Police Departments nationwide) have been finding and talking to more and more armed and very violent burglary offenders and it is only increasing. If you guys see or are able to identify the bar call for Police and do not confront them. Be a good witness and get as good of a description of the people and of the vehicle as you can and call. I know it sounds dumb............ but there are lots of dumb, armed, and desperate people that want your stuff and don't care if you get in their way.

What's a reasonable offer for a 50' curved Rough Country?
