Long Travel BS Thread

    I DD my truck. It's a pain in the ass maintenance wise. After this duty station I plan on retiring the Tacoma from DD duties. Not really a financial decision, more of a convenience one so I can really go nuts on the truck (cage, etc.)

    When you do the math on gas savings from 13 MPG to say some econobox at 30 MPG, you have to drive A LOT of miles to make up for purchase price ($7-10K), insurance, and registration.

    I drive twenty four miles round trip for work each day. Other than that most of the truck's miles are to/from offroad and offroad. And if I roll the truck, the wife is a stay at home mom... I can grab the mommy mobile (GMC Yukon) for a week if we have to.

    If I really cared about MPGs I would ride my ZX10R which still gets a good 40-50 mpg, but its fuckin cold. Same thing, I can always take the wifes CRV that gets about 30 if I cared hard enough. She works from home and we have a babysitter. NBD. I LIKE driving a built truck. I occasionally like driving fast. Point being, I'll be happy with 4.56 and stock power. Y'all can preach about 4.88s being better and more low end, but I've got plenty of that with a supercharger and supporting mods. I do appreciate the input though, it makes me feel good about my choice and know what I'll need to do in the future for even larger tires and racetruck stuff..

    oh yea its not done....getting the stuff done that I can before I take it alllll apart. and bottom tube clears a dirtbike tire crammed in there better than one on the bottom, and less welding and notching that I got to do

    You going to connect those 2 tubes with plate?

    Looks good and pretty practical place to store the hijack, etc. I was going to say if you want to run a bed cover ever that bar might make it difficult but you're running 18s so oh well. Ive thrown around the idea of a tonneau cover on my truck and cutting out the areas where my bypasses mount, would be pretty trick. I would be really happy if I could run a camper shell though.

    My softtopper still fits on there and folds up, it will sit a little higher because of that and block most the window(it did anyways)

    Who ever said anything about going that fast offroad. I know I'll have plenty of ppwer offroad, I want to maintain that power onroad as well as the ability to go the speed I want. Anyways, again, thanks for the input guys, but Ive made up my mind.

    I know this wasn't directed at me, but it's not hard to go fast in the dirt. Even before the supercharger, I'd hit 60mph+ over medium-ish whoops and have done 104mph+ through Powerline road in Barstow. Mph is GPS verified btw, not wheel speed.

    You're right though, doing it competently is a different story. I think I drive slower in the desert now that it's so much easier to get into trouble.

    What's wrong with the second one? Maybe you missed it, but that's a 6th gear pull.
