Is the general consensus around here that the bump/clank with the OME 886s only really occurs when a sway bar is still present? I removed mine a while back on my taco and am looking to get the 886 coils now

No. That was mentioned by one guy as correlating to the disappearance of his clank over bump, but other people have clank with sway removed and others do not have clank and have sway bar on still...

Interesting, does added weight in the front help at all?

I couldn't tell you. I don't have a 2nd gen and I only know what I have read in this thread about it. Search the thread and form your own opinion on what makes the clank less likely, there are plenty of guys in here that have added/removed weight up front and reported back their findings. It looks as though there is no surefire way to eliminate it. Keep in mind, it is an internal metal bumpstop that is making the noise, so it is actually a good thing. The only reason to try to avoid clanking over bumps is if it seriously bothers you or would embarrass you with other people in your truck.:notsure:

That's good to know that it's not something messing up when it clanks lol I've read a decent amount about it and it definitely seems hit or miss

Clanks creaks and squeaks don't bother me, as long as I know what is causing them. Putting my lift on at the moment actually so we'll see just how squeaky my leaf springs are.

My understanding is the clank comes from 886's going over speed bumps too fast with no extra weight on the front end. Thus they are too stiff causing the shock to recoil too fast and top out.

886 coils are meant for Tacoma's with 110#-220#'s of extra weight. Note that's not the same as 0-110#'s that the 885's are rated for. So the 886's shouldn't be used unless you have 110# or more on the front (or plan to do so).

I have 886s and no weight up front. I do not have OSBGC. I do feel the shocks extending VERY fast, though. It results in more of a thud. Either way, I think the 886s that were recommended to me to get the height required for 285s were a bad idea. I think 885s with the option of a top spacer or 887s are the right pick for me. I'll be switching my coils in a month or so.

Got a brief moment today to stretch her legs after the install. So far so good. I really like the feel of this lift offroad; it's solid and predictable. A few times I hit some erosion trenches and braced for impact, but the suspension shrugged it off with no harsh feeling in the cab. Only once did it rebound clank, but it's not a clanking sound at all, more like a dull thud and I'm totally fine with it. Flex was about what I expected and good for what you pay for this lift.

Looks good. Take that swaybar off if you want a little more articulation up front.

Sweet, in the near future I'll be adding an aluminum plate bumper up front and a 90 pound winch so it'll be like 150 pounds extra weight up front

Ive put this in a few other threads figured I'd drop it here in the OME one as well.
Ok so I finally got the 3" OME Lift on the truck. I myself didn't install the lift so if you have some specific technical questions I may not have the answers but another TW friend did, ask @DOUBLLD if you have any questions regarding install, etc... Wheels and Tires to come shortly and photos will follow. So far love the ride of this setup, little bit stiffer and a nice height and stance thus far. Can't wait to see what this build becomes over the next few months! Stay tuned.

The more caster the better with bigger tires and the lift. Toyota tried to get mine within specs at 2.7 and wouldnt go higher, and I had noticeable bump steer. I had a TW friend who works at a shop set the caster to 3.6 and the bump steer was totally eliminated.

You might have trouble in the caster department with those stock upper control arms though...
