All he can do is cut it out and weld it back, in the right place.

My issue is, will everything still fit if you relocate the engine mounts? Won't you have to bring it too far forward?

Yeah it's not an issue. There are parts I need to get before I decided to cut and weld. Plus a buddy of mine told me not to do anything until he gets a chance to look at it. I'm already thinking of a different design for the mounts that will hold up to the Long travel beating it's going to take. It will be a different mount when i'm done. More work but way stronger then what I have now. I'm also looking into a dash harness and 3.4 cluster. It's all good.

Ray looks like you got it figured out a stronger custom mount will be sweet when finished

Thanks for mentioning the cluster. When I talked to Dylan he also said i'm going to need one. I found one where I got the motor from so it's just a matter of funds for it.

Having two harnesses to lay side by side will make the electrical easier too. Grab the harness if it is clean and/or if you don't already have one

@Squeaky Penguin I found a 2003 manual with all the updates and this is why my throttle body doesn't have the cruise control cable. It also explains why I don't have a cable for the transmission.

On the models with the 5VZ-FE engine other than Sport grade model, the cruise control has been changed to one that is controlled by the ETCS-i. Accordingly, the components of the system have been changed as follows:

    - Cruise control ECU is integrated in the ECM.

    - Cruise control actuator and control cable has been discontinued.

    - Throttle control motor, throttle position sen- sor and accelerator pedal position sensor have been adopted.

D The basic construction and operation are the same as ’03 Celica. For details, refer to page 76.

    5VZ-FE Engine

D The composition of the TWC (Three-Way Cat- alytic Converter) has been changed to comply with the LEV (Low Emission Vehicle) and SFTP (Supplementary Federal Test Procedure) emission regulations.

D The same link type ETCS-i (Electronic Throttle Control System-intelligent) that is used on the ’03 Toyota Tundra with the 5VZ-FE engine has been adopted on the models other than Sport grade model.

D To comply with the OBD-II (On-Board Diag- nosis II) regulations, all the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) have been made to correspond to the SAE controlled codes. Some of the DTC have been further divided into smaller detec- tion areas than in the past, and new DTC have been assigned to them. For details, refer to 2003 General Features section.

    3. A340E and A340F Automatic Transmission
The line pressure control using a linear sole- noid valve (SLT), which was adopted on the ’02 Toyota Tundra with the 2UZ-FE engine, has also been adopted on the ’03 Toyota Taco- ma with the 5VZ-FE engine. Accordingly, the shape of the valve body and the logic of the ECM have been changed.

D The previous mechanical control, which con- sisted of a throttle cable, cam, and throttle valve, has been changed to an electronic control system that uses a solenoid valve SLT.

D The automatic transmission fluid of 3RZ-FE and 5VZ-FE engine model has been changed from the D-II type ATF to the T-IV type ATF.

Oh yeah I forgot you where also part of the conversation in the 1st gen thread. All I need is the single cable from the pedal. That's it. Years ago I downloaded the zip file for a repair manual. I didn't realize it was an 03 manual until last night and started reading it and saw the updates. I now have all the wiring diagrams of the 03 on the mac. The fun part is going to be figuring out all the new electrical needed. Now its just a matter of taking the time to learn how to read the wiring diagrams.

Just start plugging shit in, If the wires are the same color on both ends and the plugs mate together, should be good to go. :D
Seriously though, it will narrow down the odd wiring, might be less than you think.

Your engine is out of an '03?

Admittedly, I don't know anything about the Drive by Wire setups in the '03s and '04s. I've got a physical throttle cable and an electronic cruise control module. Sounds like the later years only had one thing that does both of those functions. Do you have this electronic throttle controller thing? Sounds like the gas pedal may be different as well, but again, just speculating off your post.

Was first going to say swap to an earlier year throttle body and reuse your existing throttle cable setup, but sounds like that would require other, more complicated changes.

Or just ignore my blabbering and start plugging things in like Old Brett suggested.

I just talked to Brian about changing the throttle body but it gets more complicated with how the transmission is controlled. It's just interesting how toyota just decided to change that in a middle of a run of tacomas. There is a 1st and 2nd generation of the electric controlled throttle body. 1st gen is with a cable like what I have and the 2nd is with out a cable and just sensors on the gas pedal. The only reason why I'm bringing it up is because I remember talking to you guys about it not to long ago and being unsure exactly what it was. Just a little bit of info that's it.

Go for the "drive by wire"

That way you can experience "unintended acceleration"

    It's the best kind really

    Here is what I know:
The 2wd A340E & 4wd A340F trans use the same cross member location. The rear driveshaft will need to be shortened... did it.

    What I suspect:
Toyota used there heads on this as it would have created multiple parts associated with shift linkage and other assorted parts to go along with that. Doing this also kept the shifter, console and other related parts in the same location.

After reading the concerns here, I would bet the cross member stays where it is but the new 5VZ mounts need to be installed.

    I hope this helps you.

We shall see when I get the rest of the parts. I want to make sure the drive train is in before I say for sure how everything is suppose to be lined up. Thanks for your input.

Front and rear drive shaft, front and rear cats, air box with MAF, cluster, dash harness, 4x4 actuator with wiring, starter, transmission control relays, 4wd control relay, 02 sensors, igniter, 3 more wheel studs, front brake pads, all fluids, windshield wiper reservoir, radiator support bolts and bushings. Plus i'm sure there is a lot of other little things that I haven't thought of. Vacuum lines and coolant lines. it's a long list.

    OUCH!
Minus the 3.4 conversion stuff out of... this is the reason I went with an Inch Worm 4.7 Lefty instead of the IFS stuff. No electronics whatsoever, minus the 4WD sensor. No ECU issues at all.

Now, I am in the midst of a SAS which also has zero electronics. That said, I actually have less parts to deal with.

Keep on posting pics as you progess..
