i like iphone and droid, i'm done with BB. their OS is too old. they keep refining it but until they get a new OS their stuff will continue to be extremely limited

What are the music capabilities of the Droid?

I am in the market for an MP3 player (either iPod or Zune). But I am also considering the Droid to replace my phone. Could the Droid satisfy my music needs?

I want to listen via the AUX port in my truck. I also want the ability to download podcasts and create playlists. I need about 10 gigs of space but can get by with less.

Yeah, I checked out that link but it doesn't go into detail. I need to know what software is used to sync. I want to know the ease of creating playlists. And how expandable is it.

After some more thought, I think I'm getting a Zune MP3 player and the Droid. I'll save money and get the basic Zune (no wifi) because my Droid will be internet capable. No need for them both to do it.
If the Droid can hold my music, I'll have 2 devices with my library stored.

    Home Screen / Menu / Settings / Wireless and Networks / Wi-Fi settings / Menu / Advanced / There's your MAC address.

Can also be accessed from the Apps screen / Settings ...

Direct link to Droid manual http://cache.vzw.com/multimedia/mim/mot_droid/droid.pdf

I have been waiting for Verizon to offer an iPhone. When I learned that it probably isn't going to happen, I started looking for something equal. Then along came the Droid.

    My impressions so far:
    - The camera is by far the Droid's most impressive feature as compared to other phones'/Devices' cameras. Having white balance, flash and scene mode so easily accessible is terrific.
    - The screen paints are fast and smooth in any of the apps I have used.
    - Good volume during calls for us with damaged hearing.
    I want:
    - A Wi-Fi router app. I'd appreciate a heads-up if anyone hears of one.
    - A built-in app closer/killer would have been nice, though I realize the Android model intentionally keeps apps running until resources are needed elsewhere. It's a bit counterintuitive to me, but I'll come around. I'm not planning to install a 3rd party app killer, as I want to give the system as designed a try.

for killing apps i think this works. go "settings" > applications >running services. from there, you should be able to see and force stop whatever is open. is that what you are looking for?

I'm running the free version of advanced task killer. Just make sure to configure it to ignore critical apps. Like i noticed when i had it killing the email app i wouldnt get email. so there doesnt seem to be an external service to the email client that receives new emails.

I'm really torn about getting this phone. I wanted to wait a year till my Verizon contract is up and get an iPhone (was hoping verizon would have some version of it by then) or switch to AT&T (hoping their coverage around me will improve). But my current phone is dying and needs to be replaced.

I don't want to pay to cancel my contract with verizon and have to deal with At&T's crappy coverage.

So my other option is to renew my contract with verizon early to make the droid affordable.

Just hoping that its worth doing that...

Are all you guys happy so far with the droid overall?

I love mine so far. There are some minor issues. but they will get resolved quickly. any new device especially one this complicated will have some issues.

Dont kill your contract just to get a phone. That is how these companies take advantage of the consumer.

The services don't bother me so much. It's the applications that stay active (inactive?) forever - the ones that show as running when you press and hold the Home key.

If you open a calculator and do a computation and don't clear it, it remains on the calculator for hours??? days??? because the calculator app doesn't close automatically. It's like leaving all opened windows running on a desktop. (Not really the same, it just seems that way.)

I guess if Android handles the open apps and automatically clears them when needed, all is well. I just have to get used to it. I have to admit though, I'm starting to appreciate the way it works.

you sound like you are in the same situation i was. do whatever you feel is best but i will say taht i do love this phone. plus, if you are an existing customer its $150 instead of $200.

i'm no expert, so i could be wrong on this. but i'm pretty sure holding the home key gives you the last 6 apps that were opened. if you notice, there are never over 6 apps in that screen but you can have tons of apps open at once. like i said, i dont know enough to speak with authority but i'm pretty srue holding the home button gives you your "most recent apps" list
