I'm not sure if this is more of a paranoia thing or something serious. I noticed the other day while under the truck there was a little dab of what appeared to be transmission fluid. The dab was located where the transmission meets the drive shaft. It doesn't drip in the basement, so is it something to worry about? I've read somewhere on here that a little bit of leakage is "normal". Is that true? I took a look at this thread, but it doesn't demonstrate how to repair the issue. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/new-tsb.45728/
Any help is appreciated. The fluid is mildly dark in color. Should I have the dealer drain and refill if I decide to let them work on it? Or should I just replace the seal and be done with it?

Ok, maybe not, but just keep an eye on it.

Its just the tailshaft seal. Unlikely to worsen, but should be replaced if you have to have the shaft out for other work, or the trans out for any reason.

Is it difficult to install the new tailshaft seal? Better yet, is there a right up on this?

@gearcruncher can give us an accurate answer. (and correct my diagnosis if off base)

My 'guess' would likely be ok, but never having been here on a Toyota, lets let a pro weigh in.

Alright, I checked it again today and everything was dry! Here's a pic. Does a little dribble out over time?
