I keep going back and forth on whether or not to keep my truck and dump money into it or keep it as is and eventually get a 4x4. The urge to mod is real, until I'm reminded that it's a PreRunner.

I've waxed my truck one time in the 4 years I've had it. I totally agree.

Just the basics. Light bar, I'd like sliders (door ding purposes), bed liner, after market front bumper, possibly a rear bumper.. And she needs new leafs and shocks.. It's just hard for me to justify even putting that money into it because it's only a 2wd and I live in Idaho, the longer I live here the more I want to explore. Lol.

Then again. I just made a post worried about door dings and then contradicted myself with wanting to off road/explore..... Hahaha.

IMO, don't build something that won't satisfy you in the future. You could always do a 4wd conversion later on....

Eh, maybe if it's a trail only vehicle. I definitely recommend waxing your vehicle. Definitely helps the paint last longer against oxidation and chipping clear coat and such.

I go back and forth about it constantly. I know if I sell it I want another, possibly newer Taco. The fact that it only has 53k miles, paid off and is immaculate is pretty much what's keeping me from change right now.

And I thought I had low mileage. You could get some good cash for that and then buy a 4x4!

Or keep it as a DD and buy a trail rig to beat up on and take to trails. An 80s pickup would be great, you could drive it to the trails and explore. Or first gen 4runner!

You can buy as many trucks as you want but if none of the truck can take you where you wanna go then buy one and sas it this solve all your worries. Mine was bought Prerunner but converted into toy, the dirtier the better that's Tacomas way

Your truck is way too clean to start running into stuff with it lol.

I'd say get an older one with 4wd. If all you want to do is explore you don't need a solid axle, IFS is fine. The 4cyl 22res that came in pretacos are damn near indestructable...and vehicles up your way don't really crumble from just being alive like they do near me...I'd say look for a pretaco!

I think if I were to build a dedicated rock wheeling rig again knowing what I know now it would probably be an 85 4runner or a landcruiser. That being said I love my taco.

Since the miles are so low. You could drive it a while and enjoy it. Keep the exploring to mild trails. Putting sliders on a prerunner isn't worth it. The sliders are used on extreme conditions where most prerunners will get stuck. They have nice side steps that you can buy. Do a mild suspension up grade ( a lot of the guys here know some sweet set ups that won't break the bank). Or do what this guys suggest vvvv he gets it. The only reason why you would want to sell it is if you don't want to put anymore money into period and you want something with newer technology. 1st gens grow on you and you'll fall in love with them. In the end it's your truck. Have fun!

    Or a 1st gen DC.

I say just convert it to 4x4, low miles and with 4x4 then dump money into it. Saves the hassle of selling and looking for any new rig

This is an option that isn't for everyone. But it's an option. The hassle of selling and buying in nothing compared to conversion.
