You're right that weld does suck. But you would still have bent the hell out of it ot broke it still.

I say hell with it and try getting it warranted. It's a new truck and model they may replace it just to keep you happy. Or may tell you no. You have nothing to lose.

I agree. You'd be amazed how far some dealers will go for a customer that just dropped $40k.

BUT! If they decide to give you new steps... Take them off, sell them, and get sliders. Those pred steps suck. And honestly, they don't even look that great.

This is terrible advice. You busted them, you pay for them. Not the dealer's fault, nor should they pay for a slider you busted while out FOUR WHEELING. Really, gents?!

Yea, and the next time you buy a truck... Tell the salesman the highest your willing to pay. That way the dealer gets the profit they truly deserve. You can afford it, why not?

The weld is crap, the product is crap... I'm not telling you to lie to the dealership and be a snake. But I am saying that if you feel like the tubes are poor quality and didn't hold up to what you reasonably expected... Then speak up. Who knows, you truly may have gotten a bad set considering the weak weld. Let the dealer look at it and make that decision.

Good luck, and again... Look at sliders, it sounds like that's more fitting to what you want to use your truck for.

To his defense have you seen the weld on them? It's really really bad.
Obviously not something to warranty replace because it's not meant for protection like sliders but I think the point is they could have at least tried to have a decent product.

^^^Doesn't negate the fact he broke them while out four wheeling. The welds could be crappy, but in this case, that doesn't matter.

Probably designed that way to break off instead of ripping your truck chassis and f-ing up your ride there. Be thankful they broke. It would look a lot uglier if they held and your chassis ripped!

    Wow, this entire thread:

I'd try to warranty it. Why not? Are you all telling me none of you have ever returned something that you know your abuse broke? If the dealer says no you walk away. No harm no foul.

Or is everyone suggesting that, somehow, asking the dealer openly and honestly is a "scam". Hell, that's a lot better than most people on here. Think about it?

Do you all not try to get Toyota to give you new wheel bearings at 80k on your second gen that broke because you ran LT tires that weigh twice as much as the bearing was designed for?

Do you all not try to get Toyota to replace the rear leafs that were never designed for you to take a tire off the ground so you can take a pretty stancing picture?

Common guys. I know this is the third gen :boink: forum but OP doesn't deserve the shit you are flinging. I've seen people do basically the same things that I've mentioned above and no one ever says a negative word. In fact, in those situations, people are usually rah rah'ing the OP if Toyota doesn't warranty the part and threatening to buy a Diesel Colorado :annoyed:

Dealer installed crappy steps, dealer is responsible for them. If they say off roading not covered; wow did anyone watch Sunday night football, there's a fair amount of commercials with Tacos being driven and jumped in the air off road.. c'mon. That's going to be hard to argue from a dealer point of view.

If I was the dealer I'd be SELLING sliders at a discount to you funny guys that like to do crazy with pick up truck.

I'd ask for warranty just because you never know. Maybe the dealer throws you a free detailing or gives you credit that you can use on things you have to buy from Toyota like the stock oil filter and crush washers. Trust me, not dealer is going to care for more than 20 seconds that you asked for warranty on a step you bent. I remember a buddy of mine who had GM replace an oil pan his sister tore off his car because they threatened to sue over a visibility issue. The dealer covered the labor in the end and he bought another vehicle there later that year.

If you are in there asking every month for something, sure, then you could get on the dealers bad side. On one set of steps though the dealer really will not care.

Every single one of those commercials also says "professional driver, closed course, do not attempt" at the bottom of the ad.

What the hell ever happened to honesty and integrity? Seriously, you make contact with an inanimate object with a part of your truck that isn't the tires while you are in full control of your truck, IT IS NO ONE'S FAULT BUT YOUR OWN. Full f'ing stop. Even so much as asking the dealer to deal with your stupidity and hoping they will just to get you to shut up is a sure sign of a broken moral compass.
