    Except the information you were told in the mid-travel thread is wrong. It's not just removing the dust cap. Yes the spindles are the same for 4wd and 2wd, but the 2wd spindle has a different hub flange. The 4wd hub flange has a splined hole in the middle to allow for the outer CV axle to pass through. The whole assembly is tightened together with the CV axle nut. Prerunner spindles on the other hand have a rounded hub flange (no splines) and a threaded backing that is retained with a giant nut behind the dust cover. And it's not any old nut. It's called a "front wheel adjusting nut" that is torqued to a ridiculous 200 ft pounds and requires a SST to remove. Not to mention 4wd spindles have an axle seal on the back side of the spindle too.

    If you're buying a pre-made 4wd wheel bearing/hub replacements from one of the vendors here, not as big of a deal. Unbolt the 2wd and bolt in the 4wd. You will still have to get the CV axle dust seal though.

    @jberry813 Say I bend a 4x4 spindle...everything should swap right over to a 2WD spindle, correct?

    Mostly. You can swap the hub assembly over as long as the wheel bearing is still in good shape. But do yourself a favor and buy new axle seals. You won't get the old one out without fucking it up and they're only like 15 bucks. Axle seal:

    good to know. Im swapping over hubs/bearings and whatnot directly from my current spindles to new bare stripped down 2wd spindle that will be gusseted.

    My goal here was to not have extended down time on my own rig while these get welded up. I knew i had to swap everything over from my existing. which is all new errything.

    i hear ya, been running around all morning dealing with the land cruiser. So far this morning I got it smogged, registered, insured, made an apt with my mechanic buddy to check the oil pressure and knuckle seals, dropped out my double cardon rear DL to be shortened to fit the front to stop vibes. Made an appointment to get the windshield replaced friday, and window tint fixed on driver front next friday. PHEW!! I am stoked on the purchase still thought its a pleasure to drive, oh almost forgot ill be seeing @LTDSC on sunday weather permitting to hopefully get rid of most of the pinstripes, good luck Sam you have your work cut out for you lol! pic makes it look a bit worse than it is. we're trading otherwise I wouldn't bother!

    wait so you're saying it won't be factory perfect??? lol Kidding, anything will be an improvement I have faith! Im just going to leave the fender flares on I started to take off 1 side and its a PITA, plus theres a bunch of brackets riveted to the body to mount them. more trouble than its worth, ill just beeline or derp them with them on. I guess you'll have to just buff around them?
