Colorado vs Tacoma

You are confirming what I am saying. If you get the lower trim models in the ram, you get a different transfer case. If your truck doesn't have the 4wd auto setting, then when you are in 4x4 (hi or low) you are indeed locked in.

Just bringing up these points because someone mentioned about the gm twins both having auto 4wd, making people aware of what they might actually be getting. Apparently the 4x4 Colorado with the diesel now has the same t-case as the canyon. (Autotrac gm coins it) because I knew all other colorados (2015) did not have this auto feature.

I prefer the auto feature, 6 months of winter driving where I live, and it is extremely useful when some roads are snowy, while others are bare with salt. Auto works great.

 

I prefer the auto setting as well if it's available but would not get the option if the axles aren't locked when in 4 hi. Just a personal preference. The transfer case is the NQ6 on the Canyon but I couldn't find much info on the system.

This was worth the banter....learned a new TC I had never heard of...actually 2...44 & 45.

 

Why?

 

Colorado has auto lights, that would be nice. But I do wish the 4-wheel drive switch was on the other side of the steering column. My girlfriend got in the truck and was cold and started hitting all the switches to find out which one was the heat. It was dark and the lights were not on yet so she couldn't see. but she ended up turning engaging 4 wheel drive.

 

Nice to have a mature banter. I am a member of a number of forums, and sometimes maturity is hard to come by.

 

All GM, Dodge, and Ford F350's have rear disc brakes. Anything over this and your talking about commercial grade trucks witch is not relevant to subject.

 

I had a 2005 Colly, yes frequented the coloradofans alot! I put 165K miles on it. Problems were brakes, blower motor fan resistor failed about 3 times. Also had the head replaced (recall). Drove through deep water once and my lights shorted out from the tow wiring - never towed anything, so never messed with it. Had no brake lights - after a visit to the dealership, they wanted $400 to repair so I took it to a general shop and they repaired for $100. But that didn't last long, so had to take back to dealership to replace whole fuse box-$400.
Overall, I can say I never had issues with the motor - an inline 5 cyl, 3.5. Had leather/heated seats with electric controls - yes - up/down too
I went Toyota because of its reliability and since I needed a new truck. I like my sr5 dbcb 4x4

 

Collies never got any better either. Traded my 15 Colly in 3 weeks ago today. I sleep better at night now also. Liking my 2.7 Tacoma just fine.

It's too bad that you didn't like your Colorado. I am sure they aren't all bad. Every truck manufacturer is going to have a few trucks that have issues.

I'm starting to see more and more tacoma's in my home town, all are dclb, and they are a fair bit bigger than a cclb z71 Colorado. Look wider and higher. Nice looking trucks, either brand, but the Tacoma has more of the off road truck look that most people like for a truck.

My truck was doing the same as this guys in the video. He knew someone I didn't and GM gave him a different truck.

What soured me was how GM and there employees talked like the door seals filling up with water and water pooling on the door sill was no big deal. I would tell them, "Lets see how you like it in the middle of winter when you go out to get in your truck and the doors are froze shut." I took it to a GM body shop and wanted them to align the doors because you could see plain as day they were not hung right. The main guy says, "Well they don't look that bad and besides it would be such a big job for us to take the doors off and put shim's behind the hinges and re-hang them."

I will never own another I bet you.

 

So let me get this straight...
Because you tough seals letting water in Colorado is such a bad thing, you decided to buy a truck with known frame rust issue ?

And thinking you will get resale value you purchased 2.7 L with Auto 2wd in Illinois ?

That isn't good. Sometimes a good dealer makes all the difference in the world. I had my dealer adjust the alignment on my drivers door on my ram. Just because the body gaps/lines weren't perfect. It took them 10 minutes, no questions asked. My local gm dealer sounds a lot like the one you had to deal with.

Looks like such an easy fix, too bad they didn't treat you right.

 

Yeah really as I didn't owe a dime on the Colly, now I have a small monthly payment for the next 3 years on the new Tacoma.

 

Fluid filming his 2016 from day one will leave it looking just fine... so I'd say it's much easier to prevent the rust rather than the water issues in the Colorado.

I will step back and say that both trucks are very nice vehicles but they are tuned towards different market demographics. The Colorado sells well to the practical commuter who maybe needs to tow (Diesel) and the Tacoma sells well to the OR crowd. There are plenty of reasons to get either truck so I won't get into it but I don't think either truck is a clear hands down winner to everyone like some think.

BTW, both trucks seem to rust when you search for that.



How about looking up gov bomb? Every truck has it's weaknesses. Targeting them with specific searches isn't proving anything other than the problem exists on some level with that truck. The Toyota frame issues in the past are well known. Same with the GM differentials exploding.

Probably blew those chevy salesman away when there Toyota dealership across the road told them I traded the Colly in for a new Tacoma.

 

We were talkign about rust, holes in frame. You do realize your search has Toyota frames too. Thats why I searched for hole in the frame not for simple rust word. You failed at google search.
Also If doors dont close correctly and seal collects water, thats very easy fix. Much easier than spending a day each year crawling under the truck to spray everything with fluid film in hope that maybe nothing will rust.
Also I have not seen any of the trucks who were protected with por15 or fluid film to survive. So far they rusted inside anyway because you can not get between the metal sheets.
