Digging up an old one...But for those of you using the bed extenders, how long are the boats you're hauling? Our Hobie Odyssey Tandem measures 14' and I'm considering the T-Bone. We've been yanking it around on a trailer, but that becomes cumbersome and takes up yard space.

    5100's all around. Front's set at 1.75" 265/75/16 Duratracs.
I have a 11.5 Feel Free Lure which measures 12 ft. You wouldn't have any problems with a 14 ft I believe. I still have more room to adjust mine out. I will stick out a good ways just be mindful of how you are turning but that's what these extenders were maid for.

I can put these Rhino crossbars from autoanything on in 2 minutes and take them back off just as fast. These came off my 08 tundra crewmax and I just had to move the mounts in some. I paid $259. That topper was $50 off a 2000 Frontier. I have have a color matched A.R.E. on there now.

Used a set of @KB Voodoo 's heavy duty bed crossbars and an aluminum T-bar that I made out of scraps of a boat lift leg-foot assembly... The 2" stock was $10 from a metal supply retailer near me. Overall it looks clean, despite how hacky my T-bar was.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/heavy-duty-bed-cross-bars-ready-to-ship.357732/

Obviously this setup has negatives, but I feel like the use of my bed far outweighs the other options. I can drop the tailgate and still get things in and out of the bed just fine. I ended up using this on a 250 mile trip north during July and it worked great. Had a cooler, 4 people, 4 bags worth of luggage and of course the 2 kayaks all in the truck. They're only 9.5' kayaks though, so they don't extend too far. With a 14' it might be a different story... The orange flag on the back in the first picture is an absolute necessity if you want to be legal.

I should mention that I plan to change this design and move to a setup with only a roof-rack and J-hooks so I can carry a RTT on the bed-rails and still have the ability to tow if needed. There's a very real possibility I'll either be towing a pop up or using an RTT with the kayaks which my current setup doesn't allow for.

Where did you get that adapter to hold the kayak? I could use one of those!

Not sure what you mean. The orange one is on mounted to a cheap Walmart Reese cargo basket which is mounted to some Inno Racks bars.

No, the part that is coming out of the hitch...I have a 16ft hiawatha canoe and currently no trailer. With that extender coming out of the hitch, I could get more use out of my canoe!

I won't put my yaks on top because I have them in brackish/salt water...not good for any vehicle to have that on the cab.

I don't have any pictures of the kayak on top, but I built this rack myself and added a cheap universal bolt-on kayak mount from Ebay. About $150 in steel, $40 for the kayak mounts, $20 for retractable ratchet straps, and about a day to put it all together.

    This ^^

I have a similar setup (and the same canoe - 15' version) but don't use any bars on my truck cab. If I had a 17' canoe I'd probably go with a third bar on my cab for the extra support. If you don't have a cap, any quality 2 bar system (just like above) will work and they can be easily removed when not in use.
