I built a prototype using one of the cheap wireless relay panels to fire larger relays. It did work just fine, but you're adding components into the mix and increasing your chance of failure.

    Thanks for the bump.

To the OP, here's the NSA. The remote is the only thing that goes inside the cab. You have eight channels, each of which are capable of 30 amps.

That's not entirely true. You run your switch to the small gauge power wires feeding into the contactor/solenoid on the winch. All you're doing is supplying a small amount of power to the solenoid which signals the winch to activate.

I put a couple of switches between the overhead map lights:

The sunglass holder and Iggy panel aren't viable options for me because I use the storage in those locations :anonymous:

Unfortunately I didn't take many pics of the process, but you start by cutting the plastic to fit an opening big enough for two switch bracket end pieces (newer Tacomas might have a hands-free mic in this location, so it might not work). After cutting the opening, there's a space about 1.25" deep:

To fit the rocker switches, I trimmed the contacts coming out the back of the switch bodies and soldered my wires directly to them. There might be enough room to use flag terminals if you bend the contacts slightly, but it'll be tight. Then you just run the wire bundle from the switches out that small square hole in the back and wire them up to your relays.

    They lied VVV
Winch power is less than 5 amps, same for the controls. The solenoids and heavy gauge wire coming from the winch itself takes all the amperage. Theoretically the winch under a max load could fire up past 400 amps.

Sounds like a plan. Where are you planning on installing your switches? I was thinking about this spot or possibly the fuse box cover like someone a few posts back mentioned doing

i dont think you will like them that low down. i know i hate my switches being where your trac control is for light bars because i dont want to be an a$$ hole blinding people so i hold a hand near there so i can switch them off in a hurry, i know my next spot is going to be my sunglass holder with an otrattw 6 panel and i might even relocate all my forward facing lights if not all of them, up there because i think it is a little bit easier for me to hold my hand there and reach up there in a hurry.

Do you have a write up on this or is it just as simple as cutting a hole?

They're not cheap by any means but the convenience factor is worth it to me. No longer do I need to hire someone else to wire up aux lights for me. There may be cheaper alternatives, though.
