yewz guyz,!!! I would think usaa would want it towed to one of their pro-shops,if it is totaled, usaa will let you take whuts not "stock" been there-n-dun that. they are the best ins period, and no I don't werk for them

 

I guess my bottom line question here is: how do I not get further screwed over? What happens if the guy assessing the vehicle (and subsequently the insurance company) decide not to total it, and there are issues that arise a couple of months from now? I have visions of them telling me that "sorry, we closed that claim, you're on your own for additional repairs".

Does the fact that my vehicle was parked have any impact on whether my insurance premium will go up?

 

Can you tell us yet how somebody managed to flip a car in base housing?

No idea. A witness behind the offending driver said she turned so sharply into my truck that it almost looked "deliberate", which is just bizarre. What's more likely is that she was texting while driving, thought she was about to hit the curb on the left side of the road, and overcompensated by sharply turning the wheel to the right. That's just speculation, though.

 

Can somebody please tell me what a 2014 DCSB 4WD TRD Sport w/ 12,000 miles on it is worth? I've been told to avoid KBB value as it will lowball the Tacoma. I imagine this is something that's easy for an insurance company to play around with to minimize their pay-out (if it comes to that).

I would check local dealerships and see what they're selling them for. Then you can have an actual paper estimate. Check Carmax as well. They're bound to have one with low miles somewhere in the country so then you can ask insurance for that amount.

 

Ditto man that sux!! I park on the street and worry all the time. I park at the ocean front. I'm Virgina too. Va drivers huh !!! Nothing like em.... And on moving day which is bad enough. I hope it goes well as can be expected. Royal pain though

Check Craigslist (dealers) and other local ads. When I totalled mine, they gave me a report showing what comps were selling for. Mine was an 07 DCLB SR5 with 100K. They gave me a tick over 23K for it just over a year ago. I coulda held out for more, but I thought it was a generous offer. Do some research and arm yourself with this info.
I was able to get wheels and tires and such off from the tow yard. This was not USAA..

I sold my 14 to carmax for 28000 a week ago it had 13000 on the odometer.

It's sad to see shit like this happen anywhere I can only imagine what will happen to her if she is in the military and not a dependa.

15-25 mph seems acceptable for housing even though I know it's sometimes less on some posts. I would assume she was going about 10 to 15 mph over.

When insurance gets back to you if it's not totalled they will pay for the repairs and cut you a check also for depreciated value ask about the last part because sometimes ins companies will just fix it and not mention the depreciated value claim.

This is some crap news right here. What a welcome to the area.

 

Well based on my experience, USAA gives you two options:
1. Take truck to yard or shop of your choice and they'll fix it, minus your deductible (you'll get it back at the end).
2. USAA can send a claim adjuster/appraiser dude to your house and he can give you an estimate. They'll cut you a check, minus your deductible, for you to go get it fixed. If it costs more then you let them know and they'll cover it. Again, the other insurance company will reimburse your deductible.

The fact you HAD to have it towed is BS. You should've been able to pull or push it in your driveway. They probably told you it had to be towed because they didn't want it sitting looking like crap in the road.

You SHOULD be able to get a copy of the police report, but your insurance will most likely get it. Just give them the incident or case number.

The way it was explained to me when I went through this is if totaled, you will receive whatever "Fair market value" is for your truck. As in, what everyone in your area is selling the same type of truck for with the closest mods. Anything extra will be factored in. If you feel you don't receive a fair appraisal, you can print out ads you feel are equal to yours and ask them to take them into consideration.

 

I'm not sure how USAA works, but i know that with Liberty mutual, repairs are guaranteed for the life of the vehicle as long as it's repaired at a Liberty mutual approved shop.
I would make sure that the facility it was towed to is secure. Otherwise I would get it back to the house and keep it in the garage until insurance takes a look and decides what they're going to do, total it or fix it.
