Installed rear extended travel 5100's(F4-BE5-B110-T5)

I need a set of bumps in the rear, are Wheelers Superbumps pretty good? I have a set of their front bumps that I will be installing soon with my new LCAs.

 

Their front's are great. I am sure they are the same high quality. :0

I meant to say that I am sure the rears are good. I may even get a set if I don't get pneumatic cans.

 

Yes they are worth the cost. I like mine a lot. I don't hit the rear bumps often, but when I do I'm really glad I have them.

 

See I haven't had any since October 2011. I don't know if I've ever come close to hitting the bumps. I've pulled a 4.5k trailer and I was still about 4" from hitting the flip kit.

On daily driving with the Dakars plus

$77 D29XL Leaf Spring

D29XL the spring pack is stiff. They can take a lot of weight. I'm running 300 lbs. over stock most of the time and they're still plenty stiff.

The only reason I know I'm hitting, is the dust free polished part of the frame where they make contact. Now that I think about it, I'm thinking they hit every day at work because of the manner in which I drive over the speed bumps. lol I can test that theory with some chalk. Heh.

As a side note, I did some spirited driving in the desert last weekend and bottomed out a few times and super bumps were felt and did well. Made me happy to have them.

I really wish I had a gopro.

 

Haha he flip kit i bought back then didn't have the holes tapped to even add the OEM bump stop. I've been contemplating adding either bumps or cans back there but for the time being the truck is my wife's DD and only gets used offroad maybe 3-4 times a year. I don't have much weight in my bed besides my tool box and my spare.

 

Will 2" block need extended break lines in the rear of a 2016?

 

After winning the war with extended brake lines, I put in some 5100 B110 yesterday. I gained 3" of wheel travel.

Rear end feels better already just driving around town.

 

Take this with the grain of salt that comes with it for free.

I did a lot of circle jerking with the whole shock thing and ended up (for now) with ICON 56503Rs that have a compressed length of 15 and some change.

I know this will limit my travel (pun since these will also act as a limit straps) but tuned properly, they will give me more than enough fun while I have limited travel I have in the front or redesign my shock mounts.

I did this for two reasons, when I cycled the Dakar pack (only top spring with spacer block (to drop axle housing down to where it is) and because I used a similar length, obsolete fox resi shock and there are witness marks on the bedside that the shock bushings must have compressed to 0.100-0.150 or so to allow the stem to gouge the bed where it did and the fact that the witness mark (gouge) by the bolt that attaches the Timbren on the bump receiver on the bottom of the frame rail.

I only say that because if you are going to use the existing shock mounts, you may want to buy a hockey puck and mount under your bump. ... otherwise under true dynamic loads with expo weight, you may find that you will be using that shock as a bump as well.

 

Thanks. I did measure and I recall I have a 2.5" margin of safety. That's accounting for the superbumps compressing to the max of 1" height.

I'll double check my measurements, and post back but at the present time I believe I'm good.

 

I was wrong. I have detailed measurements and pics, which I'll share later, but the bottom line is my margin of safety is .41".

I know that sounds kind of scary but I'm having to estimate how far the super bump will compress I'm assuming the poly can compress down to 1 inch tall which is saying a lot.

Does anybody know if wheelers quotes the max compression of their poly bumps?

I'm cross posting this from my build thread. Just went through the full exercise yesterday.

New Silver Bilstein RCD/BE5-B110-T5

• Monotube, High Pressure gas shock
• Extended Length: 27.28"
• Collapsed Length: 16.34"

What do these extended and collapsed lengths really mean? The devil is in the details and I could not find them so I broke out a tape measure and started measuring.

I disconnected the shock, to let it fully expand and put a tape measure on it.


It is exactly 27.28" as measured from the center of the shock eye mount to just under the lower frame bushing washer. This is critical information for me.

Then for fun (not really fun, shock is hard to compress), I measured the collapsed profile. That's my foot holding the piston rod in while I measured.
It's true it will go to 16.34" as measured from eye to lower frame bushing washer.

Next I reinstalled the shock into it's home on the frame and torqued everything to spec.

Next I carefully measured the length of the shock at static ride height as pictured above and got 21.75"
Then I proceeded to measure my Wheeler's Super Bumps.


Now putting all the critical information together.

It is unknown how much the super bump will actually compress under dynamic applications like a hard impact. The bump stop is polyurethane and it is dynamic, it's not a hard rubber stop like the Toyota Factory one. So I'll have to make an educated guess. I'm going to say that the super bump can compress all the way down to 1" tall. So looking at the pic above, that would mean up-travel of 5". Let's make that number negative 5".

Now lets do the math.

21.75" Shock length at ride height.
-5.00" Five inches max up-travel (my best guess)

16.75" Compressed shock length.

One more math operation to arrive at the margin of safety.


16.75" Compressed shock length.
-16.34" MAX COLLAPSED LENGTH AS MEASURED AND ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURE SPECS

0.41" Margin of safety.

That's cutting it close. I may add a 1/4" or 3/8" bump spacer just to be on the safe side.

I was at downsouth motorsports on Friday and I ask Micah if Sonny still work there and he said Yes.

 

Let's just say that the stock ones compress to less than a half inch under testing. sillycone a couple of aluminum cans to your leafs and see the relative crush on a fast run.

 

Hockey pucks are cheap.
