What is everyone have their Icon coilovers set on as far as thread showing measurements?

I would like to know if you guys are having the same problems that I am having? I bought the extended travel Icons that are adjustable from 0-3.5". In Icons factory literature they state that the thread measurement should not exceed 1.75" of thread showing (the setting they are shipped at) to maintain a smooth ride. If you talk to them on the phone they will tell you the same that it will ride like crap and possibly cause coil binding while off roading leading to damage of your trucks suspension components.
Going to rattle of some specs and measurements real quick so you can follow my dilemma. The 2016 Tacoma sits one inch higher in the front compared to the 2005-2015 resulting in a measurement of 21" (2015=20") from center of hub to fender, the rear is at 22" center of hub to fender. As stated on Toytecs thread on lifting the 16' Tacoma the max safe level you can lift the front to is 23" from center of hub to fender. So in the rear I went with a one inch block plus the rear axle shims equals 23 3/8".
So here goes my problem... Had the Front coilovers installed at the setting they came from Icon at (1.75") resulting in a center of hub to fender measurement of 22.5", for all you brainiacs that is only 1.5" of lift, wtf?!? So in order for me to get two inches of lift to hit the maximum safe 23" center of hub to fender I had to crank them up to 2 1/4" thread showing on the drivers side and two inches on the passenger side... Of course like Icon told me when going over the factory setting of 1.75" thread showing the truck in fact does ride like sh*t. So did I just pay $1200 for a coilover kit that claims 0-3.5" adjustable lift but only is in reality only 1 1/2" of lift? Everyone that has this same kit on their 2005-2015 Tacoma state that they are getting around 2.5" of lift on the factory setting of 1.75" thread showing. I would love to hear from anyone else running this set-up to see if your having the same issues.

I put the extended travel icons on my FJ and they were cranked WAY over 1.75" of thread showing to level it out with the icon rear springs. The drivers side was even worse. I didn't use a top plate spacer though.....Didn't have any ride issues but I never liked how cranked they seemed to be and I get what you mean.

Gen 2 fits, but it's not the same suspension.
The Toytec post you referred to even states they only got 1.5" of lift out of a 2.5" product.

when adding more preload on the coilovers, you'll actually get double of the lift. so for every 1/4" more of preload, you should be getting 1/2" of lift. I'm pretty much maxed out on my Fox's as well so I just purchased some 700lb 14" coil springs to replace my 600lb 13" coil springs.

yeah your probably going to need to upgrade springs like i did if you want that much lift and a better ride. if you dont have any extra weight up front you can go with 650lb 14" spring from eibach.

Yes split bolt I did see that but they are referring to a non-adjustable Bilstein that will give you 1.5" lift even on a 15', this shock added to the 1" increased height of the 16' equals 2.5. Now, Icon claims up to 3.5" in lift adjustment for the 16' when that's not the case, it was only after I bought the suspension kit did I look on this forum to see people were only getting 2.5" lift on the 2015 with this kit. I have been in contact with Icon a good bit recently and they said they needed to update their info concerning their kits on the 16' as far as lift height results.

As far as the pre-load that's what Icon told me, but I had to crank a half inch of threads to get a half inch of lift so like your saying the springs are maxed out. Thanks pngo121 I will look into getting some new springs.

Okay, I could see making that assumption based on a somewhat ambiguous description from Icon's website.
I just don't see how it's a "problem", especially now, knowing you've been in contact with Icon.

So I had a similar issue with my icon coilovers. I ordered the 700# springs but they sent them with 650s. Ended up with only 1.25" of lift due to the extra weight from aftermarket parts on my truck. I have read that the 3.5 engine is heavier than the old 4.0. Maybe that and simple fact that the front end on the 16 is bigger has added a bit of extra weight to the front of the truck compared to the 2nd gen. That could be why your coils are not giving the expected lift.

I have 700# on it now.

The preload with the 700# springs are set with 13/16" of thread above the adjustment ring on the drivers side and 7/16" on the passengers. This setting got me about a 2.75" of lift with the weight of my alum-plate bumper, winch and steel rocksliders.

Isn't there supposed to be an ignore button on this forum somewhere? I start a thread asking people what they have their shocks set to and get replies from some tool that hasn't done jack squat to his truck and you want to educate me?? Thank you other guys that have actual knowledge and are trying to be helpful. The whole reason I never joined this forum before (this is my third Tacoma) is pathetic little cunts like you splitbolt chiming in like your an expert. Go join the thread "what haven't you done to your tacoma today". You feel me chump? Go put a spacer lift on your truck and crawl some malls.
