Two years ago I noticed very light hairline cracks in both headlight lenses that do not surface, that is, you can rub the area(s) with your finger and fill no breaks. I contacted the service manager about this and his answer was, " there may be, but no one from Toyota has sent us any information'. last year I went through the same routine the exact month with the same reply's. I feel this is not normal, should I try and negotiate further or what, what is your suggestions, thank-you. P.S., the headlight(s) are now ( December-2015 ) weathering (wearing rough ).

Toyota had a "Enhanced Warranty" for affected headlights. Those included lights that had bubbling, cracking, lines ect. from excessive heat from the day time running lights. For the warranty, you would have your headlights replaced free of charge by any Toyota dealership. They rolled out the coverage falling under two catagories, "Primary" and "Secondary" coverage. "Primary Coverage" ended on November 30th 2015 (a few days ago) meaning that the unlimited mile any year warranty is gone. Up until November 30th, any Toyota Tacoma regardless of mileage or year affected would be replaced free of charge. "Secondary Coverage" is
is applicable for 5 years from the date of first use or 70,000 miles, whichever occurs first. So it looks like you missed out on that as well unfortunately. At this point, you are either going have to either live with it, or purchase OEM or aftermarket headlights. OEM are expensive, and ensure that you are buying the newer glass backed day time running lights so you don't go through this again. Aftermarket is much cheaper however optics (beam pattern) can be questionable, and you may run into the same problem you are having with your current headlights.

Sorry for the book I just wrote haha.

edit to add* You also may be able to contact the dealership and hook you up, since they did not take any action when you notified them of the issue. They aren't legally/policy bounded, but who knows, they may make it right.

Just so I understand, the vehicle is 7 years old with 140000 miles and there are cracks in the headlight lens which do not penetrate through the depth of the plastic lens. Maybe I'm missing something here, but 140k plus 7 years old seems like its ok to have some surface cracks. Personally, I would not complain

Move along, you are offering nothing to help the OP. Apparently Toyota thought it was enough of an issue to offer a headlight replacement to over 243,000 trucks.

So here's the thing. The OP said nothing about "melting" of the lens (which I have seen) he talked about cracking of the plastic. So after 7 years and 140,000 miles he whines about it. This is an example of when you should "put your big boy pants on". Its a problem that is seen often on this site: "Oh the dealer was so mean to me", what should I do? Here is a hint: go to the dealer and deal with it, or not. It is your choice! Whining here may make you feel better because you are so sad and having others empathize with you gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling. Maybe they gave you a trophy when you were a kid for just showing up, but in reality only winners deserve a reward. Life is tough, but its tougher when you are stupid

The enhanced warranty service specifically states hazing, bubbling, and cracks, so theres that.

    I can't believe this.

Every single time I become aware of a recall that would affect one of my vehicles, I literally miss it by days.

I have just noticed multiple horizontal cracks in my headlight lenses, and they were not there a few months ago.
