I have a 2014 Tacoma. Is it too late to get the rustproof sprayed on at a local shop. Is it even worth it. I do plan on keeping the truck As long as possible.

Thanks ahead of time for the feedback.

If your frame looks good don't bother with the Toyota aplications. Have the truck Rustchecked or Krowned. At the dealership I work at we spray frames and it basically just makes the customer feel warm and fuzzy. Trucks come in a couple of years later after the application and they're rusting away. The only part I like about the Toyota application is the spray that is used inside the frame. It's waxy in nature and stays pliable so it protects well. The application that's used on the outside hardens and after a few years starts to fall off as fhe rust creeps under it. Rustcheck the truck (or apply any oily substance of your choosing) and wash your vehicle regularly is your best defence against rust.

Fluid Film, and you can do it yourself. Tons of guys on here use it.

i highly recommend krown. Fluid film is well regarded on this site, but you just cannot do as thorough of a job as a krown shop, unless you have some special equipment. Check out my writeup of my krowning that i had done this fall. It starts at post #892
https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/western-mass-tacomas.168431/page-45 edit: and, my springs havn't squeaked since doing this:D

This is true but the downside is Krown has so few locations in the US that most of us are stuck with applying FF ourselves.

true. I had to drive 1.5 hours. And the garage i went to told me it took them 2 years to get krown to say yes to that location. You would think krown would want more locations!

Some people will tell you to stay away from the brakes and exhaust, other than that it's all fair game as far as I know. And even if you get some on the brakes or exhaust it should just burn off.

I paid particular attention to inside the boxed frame section in the front of the truck. The search function on this site doesn't work all that well but go to Google and type in 'tacomaworld fluid film'. Then set aside about 10 hours to read all the info you'll find!

I'd drive 1.5 hours to have it professionally done but there aren't any Krown locations anywhere near that close to anyone outside NE USA.

I have been using carwell cp-90 for years. They are only located in Buffalo and Syracuse but I do it myself anyways. They sell all their products and ship them anywhere. 1 gallon lasts me 2 or 3 applications. I used to use a Wagner sprayer but have since bought a proper undercoating gun with all the wands and it works great. The product is very similar to krown, as it is a seeping type oil. IMHO if your gonna do it year to year it makes sense to buy all the gear and do it yourself.

I've seen Krown mentioned in other Tacoma threads as one of the only recommended rustproofing franchises.

What is unique about Krown that makes it so much better?

I live in Pa where lots of salt is used on the roads in winter. However, after reading many of the frame rust threads, I've been considering taking no action on my 2015.

It seems like most of the protective coatings may do more harm than good or not help at all. Fluid Film seems to be the best 'do it yourself' option but I do not have the time of facilities to do that.

There is a Krown dealer less than 90 minutes away but I am curious as to what specifically makes them their process or application better.

did you read my krown writeup in the link that i posted above? What makes it better is the thoroughness. They basically achieve 100% protection. They dont only do the frame, they drill tiny holes in key places and spray the "insides" of the truck, behind all the sheet metal etc. Its worth the 90 min drive if you are serious about protecting your investment from rust. Edit:there is also a guy on here who lives in a winter state who has an 05 he has been krowning since new. His truck is still in great condition after 10 winters.

If Krown isn't available do Rustcheck. Any oil base product will work. You could apply used motor oil and it would work but messy. I won't get to hung up on "if it's not Krown then nothing".

You know I've been pining over what to do with my 15', do the FF or some other protective spray. My usual winter routine is to stop at one of the "wash all you want" for $6. So I pull in,don my gloves and get after it,paying most of my attention to the frame an suspension bits. I do this once a week religiously.
