Hey guys, Alright.... complete new guy question here as I am still learning all about the tacoma's and their capabilities. I can tell you just about anything pertaining to Wranglers, but I'm still getting everything figured out with the taco's..... alright, so here is it.... I recently put some 38 inch Toyo MT's on my jeep JK, they might have 500 miles on them? either way, still a new tire. But they aren't what I'm looking for for my JK. So with hopes of avoiding buying a new set of 35's for my taco to go with the 6 inch and a set of 40's to put on my jeep.... I'm thinking of trying to squeeze the 38's under the taco with a 6 inch..... is this feasible without mass amounts of cutting and headache? can the axels handle them for daily driving? (not wheeling) I'd like to hear your input. Thanks guys!

Disclaimer: I'm asking for advice and personal experience here, i'm not looking for " who does that? you're and idiot" if you have some smug shit to say, keep it moving, I have neither the time nor the inclination to deal with keyboard tough guys.

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this.

Assuming 38x12.5, I don't think you'll pull that one off without some form of large headache. Have you already re-geared? Cause there's no way you'd spin 38s without. 4.88's if I'm not mistaken. And you'll probably need glass. And burly spacers. And cutting. And. And. And. And. Andandandandandandandandandand

Honestly, I run 33's and had to do an irritating amount of modification to fit them. Nothing compared to 38's. That will be an insane amount of modification.

Very doable! But not a fun experience. Probably pretty rewarding though

I appreciate the input guys, @ techride, No I haven't re-geared, don't really plan to either. My tacoma is my daily driver I'm aiming towards keeping it geared towards street operation. All of my off pavement stuff takes place in my Jeep. I didn't really think the 38's would fit just by looking at it but I wanted to get with some guys that may have some prior experiences. Thanks for your thoughts man.

@ Sixthsnail yeah man, I'm sure it would look beefy as hell, but I'm not looking to modify the wheel wells that much in order to squeeze these 38's. I was more or less trying to avoid buying two sets of ridiculous tires for two different vehicles. Question though, you said that you had to modify some shit in order to fit 33's, how much lift are you running on your rig? I'm reading about guys being able to squeeze 35's in there with 6 inches of lift, is this not the case? On a side note, I like what you're doing with your truck, looks like you're having a good time with yours and taking it to some pretty cool spots, thats awesome bro.

Alight guys, again, I appreciate your input and backing up what I was already thinking wasn't going to be feasible. Never hurts to have a second opinion though. Have a good one guys.

Re-gearing in the case of tires that are a large oversize is about being able to actually turn the wheels, not about performance... On a 38 inch tire your already slow truck would probably have a hard time getting going at a stop light. With the Jeep, the gearing is all lower already so it's less of an issue, but if you are wheeling it I would think you would want to re-gear it as well

And yes, with a 6 inch DB lift you might be able to fit 35s without any real fuss, if it's just the look you're after.

I'm at 2.4" lift up front. I probably won't go any higher but maybe to 2.5" when I get new coilovers. I've seen people fit 35's and 37's with a simple 3" lift. You just have to be okay cutting the cab mount. Not a big deal. I had to cut mine for 33's along with a lot of my wheel well to stop the rubbing. When I got a new front bumper though, it was fixed. A lot more clearance. 37's probably would require glass and a bit more cutting.

I don't know too many people with 6" lifts. I think the reason is that it makes them less stable. Higher center of gravity and you can clear most things on 3 inches.

If you go big, do it right. Re-gear, trim where you need to.

Yeah re-gearing was a must on my jeep, even when I was only running 35's it had a hard time getting out its own way. I run 4.88's on it now and they turn the 38's nicely offroad. Yes as much as it pains me to say, the mod's ill be making to my tacoma are purely for looks, I'm building a mall crawler more or less, just adding some look to my daily driver. All that wheeling I do takes place in my JK. I appreciate the input guys.

There is a member on here, can't remember who, that is running 37's. They did huge amounts of cutting and regeared. I am sure someone knows who it is.

Looks aren't a bad thing. I hit dirt maybe once a month but haven't actually needed any of my mods except maybe my tires... Hahaha

Haha same here. They went straight to 37s because they could get them at military surplus stores for cheap

I think 35s on a 6 inch lift will be what you are looking for

Because that's what we do, we're stubborn men. Someone says it won't fit, we force it. Sounds kind of rapey...

I had to do some cutting with my 35's and 6" lift. You would have to cut the fuck outta your truck to fit those.

Not sure if you're talking about clupi or not. Pretty sure he is on 37s w/ 3" lift.
