Patience. I had the same issue. Placed order 10/24/15, waited, waited. Just got message from dealer last night that Toyota stepped up production, and the truck will be here December 5th.

^^this. Your dealer doesn't know what trucks other dealers have until the other dealers get them. And that can change daily. Your salesman (if he's good) will probably do a dealer check every day to see if the truck you want has showed up at any other dealers in the region/nearby. If one shows up, he'll likely try to trade a truck on his lot for the one you want. If not, one will be built and delivered- and as others have said, that could take awhile. They want to get you a truck asap, rest assured.

There are aspects they have no control over, as well. They might say "we'll know more on Friday". And they actually think they might know something Friday, when in fact they'll find out nothing. More than likely they're not jerking your chain. They'd get you the truck yesterday if they could. That said, there's nothing wrong with calling and asking for updates when you want to. A salesman would prefer that to losing a sale. And they know how excited some people get about NEW TACOMAS. It's kind of a big deal :)

You make a lot of sense. They want that commission asap I'm sure.

I had the same issue. The first dealer did a bait and switch routine to get me in sending me an email with an invoice for a truck I was promised in four days. A week later still no truck. I started checking inventories within 200 mile radius and found the truck was still at another dealer. (Same VIN). I called that dealer and was told the truck was on their lot. I drove to that dealer (only 30 miles away). Made a better deal with a better trade in allowance and the second dealer threw in a free pair of oval nerf bars installed. My advice is don't put any money down on a truck you can't see and touch unless you get it in writing what day you will get delivery, and if they don't deliver on that date you get something off the selling price for each day you wait or something else like free accessories. It gives the incentive to take care of you. Not sure if a dealer will do it but doesn't hurt to ask. Bottom line is 2016s seem to be slow getting to dealers, so finding the exact one you want may take some time and work.

Because whenever they receive a vehicle, it has to go through an inspection process and the porters have to prepare the vehicle for the lot.

Keep in mind a dealer depending on how busy they are can receive anywhere between 2 - 30 vehicles per day.
    1. Porters asign an inventory number.
    2. Put on license frames, inserts, and dealer stickers.
    3. Remove all protective stickers.
    4. Technician then does an inspection that reviews everything from enabling ECU functions to tire pressure.
    5. Depending on dealer, they may swap out air for Nitrogen in tires.
    6. Assemble accessories like center caps / hub caps
    7. Depending on dealer, a pin stipe may be added
    8. Depending on dealer, a protective paint coating may be added.
    9. Depending on dealer, a windshield treatment may be added.

Once all this stuff is done, Then the salesman has to find time to contact you and set up an appointment while juggling other appointments.

That's a lot of stuff EVERY new vehicle goes through. So it's understandable it may take a few days. Especially at the end of a year.

Salesmen should know how much they have to do. Therefore - don't overpromise. Even if it's just a call to say, hey...I don't have any more info for you.

I'd be inclined to give them a chance. Have a frank conversation with your salesman - ask him what day he will call you with an update. Emphasize the importance of calling you on that day, even if it's to say he doesn't know anything else. If he can't do that...then vote with your feet and find another salesman at another dealership.
