infinity speakers?

Hey guys, quick question for you. I have inifinity 6 1/2 component speakers in every door on my truck. They are the 6020 reference series. Anyway the sound is kind of hollow or I should say they they have that small speaker sound to them. I like being engulfed in sound. Any suggestions? I like the clarity and sound of the components especially for accoustic music but there is definitely a lack low mid range. What do I need to do? Different speakers? I do have a subwoofer built into a arm rest enclosure (10").

 

sounds like u need a better midrange for the door since u have a sub and the tweets from the component, then you can cross over your signal better and blend high, mid and low into the 3 speaker sets.

 

Have you deadened the door at all? Also, what frequencies are they set to play? Do you have them crossed over at all? Are they playing on headunit power or a separate amp?

 

Curious, but what sub enclosure do you have? The JL Stealthbox? Can you take some pics/share some opinions on the sound.

 

Well the options on the crossover only apply to the tweeter and that is 0db change or -3 db change depending on if you want the tweeter screaming or not. How do I deaden the door? What will that do for me? These speakers got excellent reviews but they seriously sound hollow and small. The tweeters sound amazing for accoustic guitar music ( way awesome). I made the mounting plates myself from 3/4 inch particle board. The speakers are amped. They have a high response rating so they actually run just fine off of the head unit, however it did not change the issue I'm having. Here's some pics of the sub enclosure.

 

It sounds to me like you're suffering from a lack of midbass response. You've got the highs and the lows seem to be there but the punchy bit close to the sub is probably not where it should be. Try sealing up the doors and deadening them. This should give you a big jump in midbass response. You can also try using the EQ on your headunit to boost the 80-150hz frequencies.

I saw a big improvement in mid bass from my 6x8 in door speakers (1st gen) when I sealed up the doors (use metal flashing or similar to seal up the huge access holes in the door and put a layer of RAAMaudio/Dynamat.... to keep it from vibrating). I did the rear doors first (double cab) so I was able compare the same speakers with and without the sealed/deadened doors. Huge difference.

Thank You! Sounds like its worth a shot. The speaker mounts I built don't entirely cover the opening in the sheet metal now that I think about it. That could be my problem. Maybe there's feed back coming through... Where's the best place to get this sound deadning stuff? I've heard its rediculously expensive? Suggestions?

Ehh scratch that idea. The baffles had terrible reviews. How many square feet of this dynamat stuff will I need. I'll start with the front doors. Recommended thickness?

 

I installed the polk 6 1/2" components in all 4 doors, and dynamated the crap out of the doors inside and out. Even did under the hood. They sound good just need more power. I've got a alpine w404 w/ this cool little amp alpine makes. it plugs right in line with the radio harness and bumps power up to 45 watts cont power. i need a sub box for behind back seat.

 

It's not as expensive as you think it is. Follow the steps to deadening and sealing the doors that I laid out in my recent deadening thread. You don't need to use the MLV barrier in your case unless you really want to.

Tell him you need 20CLD tiles and some butyl rope; maybe like 3 feet? Use about 7 on the inside of each door and use 3 on the outside of the door to seal up the open areas. You can use the butyl rope instead of the clear silicone I used for the same purpose, it will probably smell less

No, unfortunately the seats do not fold back anymore. They stop when they hit the sub enclosure. The sub box was custom built for me by a stereo shop in Temecula. He took all the dimensions and a few days later I had a sub enclosure. It fits snug as can be.

ahh cool. I guess i'll figure something out whenever I need to fold down those seats. (I have the same problem with a sub i ordered from super crew).

did you ever adjust the eq on your headunit?
