Any fellow survivalists utilize their truck?

I plan on adding more to my truck soon

How can I store water in my truck this water and keep it from freezing? I was thinking of adding a drop of Vodka per litre. Any other suggestions or ideas?

 

Looks similar to mine. I support the idea of having one that can self-charge. That Motorola unit is nice, but it needs batteries. So if you've got no power for a while...

I just let mine freeze, honestly. I carry a Nalgene to and from work that always has unfrozen in it, so I'd have water for long enough to thaw out the frozen ones. I brought the bag in and out of the car for a while, but it was a pain so I stopped. I just use the 16oz bottled waters, so it's easy to slip one into an inside pocket on my jacket to thaw, but if worse came to worst my Nalgene is steel so I could cut the bottles open and melt them in that over my candle lantern. You'd have to add a pretty decent amount of vodka to keep it from freezing, and even then it'll still slush or freeze if it gets cold enough.

You could try storing gatorade/powerade instead; the sugars should give them a lower freeze/thaw temp.

 

My family has TO GO BAGS set up,made out backpacks, nothing fancy but effective ,can quickly be thrown in the the truck,also remember lost of power and other infrastructures will be down so bring cash,small bills for barter or purchases. No ATMs will be working .

 

In a nut shell this is the GHB bag I built for the Gf. The Mora/light my fire knife isn't in the picture.

I have included 2 days od dog food as the puppy rides in her car 90% of the time.

Could you set pre-determined rally points then use Frs/GMRS/HF or VHF radio to finalize on one of the selected? The Boafeng is a great cheap option.

What about extending Her GHB to a 48 hr pack, and have her met you in the outskirts of town rather than at the house?

 

Yeah there is nothing magic about vodka. Add a drop of vodka per liter and you'll get a liter of ice with a drop of vodka on it.

I'm thinking of going the same route... Just need to pull the trigger on the purchase.

 

• You have fuel, but where's the stove and cook pot? Or, ditch the stove/pot/dehydrated food and just put a Datrex block in there for calories that can be eaten on the go.
• Throw in a Lifestraw or a Sawyer Mini filter.
• Cheap emergency rain poncho
• Ditch the candles and glow stick, and put in a small LED flashlight and store the batteries out of it so they don't leak.
• Always pack an extra pair of good socks for long walking.
• Add a water carrier like a Nalgene bottle or something similar. Aluminum non-insulated bottle works good, because then it can be used to boil water if necessary.

 

Condoms, Tampons, pepper spray, TP, panty hose.
Also some stuff depends on temps/weather etc. Trash bags can be used as emergency rain gear.
I'd probably ditch the cards and tire gauge. Hard to tell but looks like maybe you have two Vaselines, maybe ones lotion. You could make some Vaseline cotton balls, for starting fire, but also double to use as regular Vaseline/lotion. Two birds one stone.
Could make her an alcohol stove out of a can, instead of carrying the fuel above, also use alcohol for medical/sanitizing. Could make a little fishing bottle rig, real light and double as container.
Just a couple ideas. Try to multi purpose things.

More importantly, help her understand how to utilize and apply what all you're putting in the bag. Because if she doesn't, it's all useless.

I really enjoy this thread, lots of good ideas. I don't carry much in my Taco other than a solid first aid kit, flashlights, muck boots, rain gear etc. I work about 15 minutes from my house so my plan is to bug out and head home if things go south. I do have 4 large empty storage containers, each with a packing list, that I can fill and load pretty quickly. Like I said you guys have lots of good ideas so now I'm tweaking my list. Awesome thread.

I considered carrying oxygen, but how long will that tank last?

I guess something is better than nothing, but if you are 6+ hours away from civilization/help, you will run out of O2.

 

I agree, but I tend to run with the logic that "half of nothing is nothing." I'm working on another O2 solution but have to wait as I'm spending heaps on truck specific parts right now.

 

Living in the area that I do (On a canal in southern Ms.) I'm going to add a radio (With emergency band) to my truck in the near future, and a home radio for central Comms.

I don't keep what I need to in my truck, but I need to build some weatherproof, lockable storage for the bed to do so.
I have an emergency poncho, acetometaphine, ratchets, tow strap, snatch strap, flashlights (Maglite, and nitecore MH25), and a few cliff bars/granola bars.

Supposed to be getting a list from the county EMA/Sheriffs office of what they have the deputy take when theres a natural disaster.

I'll be building a lockable AR rack thingie for behind the back seat when I get time.
