Good to hear! I will be leaving the service though. I'm going to flight school so i'm hoping to get a job in aviation. That's why i'm getting my feelers out now as to what my options are in different parts of the country.

Oil companies have pilots to fly their geological teams around. Lots of professional pilots - my wife's uncle flies for a group of doctors that share a Citation Bravo. Making $200K/year. It's just a matter of finding the plane or group for you.

I'm working on my Rotor license. originally the plan was to go to the forestry service. My friends cousin works for Bristow flying guys out and back from the oil rigs. I have to find a spot to gain turbine time, but Bristow wouldn't be a bad option.

Corpus Christi. Lots of rig folks go in and out of there. While it might be a little bigger and more expensive than living out in the country, it's a lot cheaper than Connecticut.

I have lived in Texas three different times, would not live there again...while the obvious taxes are low, the hidden taxes can be very, very high, and there are NO consumer protection laws. Don't EVER fall under Texas child support laws either.

On the other hand, my daughter just moved to McAllen, Tx, graduated UNT in Denton, and started a full, time, permanent, professional IT position in GIS with the city, at age 22.

My older daughter finished up her Masters in Professional Accounting and got her CPA in Houston, now she is in Boston after doubling her salary to move. She was tied of being the only single professional women in Houston, all the other women were getting married at 22.

Do you want to hear about my POS ex in Fort Worth? didn't think so...

I do. I'm in Georgetown because my wife's POS divorce attorney gave her ex the entire state of Texas to move to, after managing to also give him primary custody and residence.

Lotsa money in GIS - very cool. Great skill, very portable, and the demand far outstrips availability. Good for her!

Way to go. By the way, there are cheaper places you can leave in this country, did you try Mexico, just a thought.

Llano is starting to get pricier as people from Marble Falls and Lago Vista start to expand north to try and grab more land, but from what the people I do work for tell me it isn't that bad. They already own land though.

Greg Abbott being governor just seems a strange promotion from Attorney General.

I miss Molly Sharp from the Fort Worth Telegram!

But the BBQ is good, and I have strong ties there. And I still cover the area for work, so I visit often

Oh, I grew up in Connecticut also, New Haven area.

Now there's a place that hasn't changed. Same Super S, same Dairy Queen. Same gas station across the street from my aunt's house. Thank god Whittington's has a store front now, though.

    Yes,
If you are looking for acreage in houston, it's going to be tough. Houston is located in Harris county, once outside Harris County in any direction there are a lot of different options. Good luck with the search, ask as many questions as you like!

Look into Santa Fe, Texas. 20 minutes to Galveston. Close enough to commute to Houston. Nice country town, but close to all things you might want to do.
