4x2 vs 4x4

Only in the "Adult Only" movies. Best bet to survive the SHTF scenarios is to live by a coupon queen. Knock her off and live on 500 bottles of ketchup and 9000 bags of potato chips.

 

4X4 is more badass... case closed.

 

Will this be more badass than a big Tundra Limited 4x2?

 

If one needs to exude "bad ass" because of deficiencies in other areas , I suppose choosing the 4X4 would help .....a little

 

Need/Want...

I don't need hurricane shutters, but I want them to protect my property in the event. (caveat = new FL builds require "opening protection")
I don't need homeowners insurance or flood insurance (unless required by your mortgage lender), but I want them to protect my asset.
I don't need 4x4, but I want it in the event it becomes necessary. Really, you are looking at the cost of a daily cup of coffee for a few years.
I don't need health insurance...err, oh...um...never mind.

Lived in the midwest, iowa. Only been stuck once with 2wd. That being said I avoided areas and drove smart.

I will not own another 2wd. I put kayaks in the bed. Real long ones may need a hitch extender

 

What if your truck is stock...but 4x4?

Pay no attention to all the 4x4 macho BS. Also, the BS about it will bring more when you sell it, duh of course it will bring more, but you have invested $3-4K more in a 4x4 and you basically got no return on your money. The bottom line, if money is a factor then buy what you need. I've had 4x4 and hardly ever used it so my past two trucks have been 4x2.

 

When you need it in North Texas, you should stay off the road. The snow and ice aren't the problem, other drivers are.

 

As much as I've always wanted a 4x4, I could never justify it with the type of driving I do. And, yes, having lived in snowy places (Utah, Spokane WA), North Texas snow isn't a problem for a 2WD, it's the ICE and the other drivers that make driving in "weather" treacherous.

 

Lifting kayaks to the roof isn't too much fun, but once they are there, tying them down isn't too hard. Might depend on the rack and holders you use though. Mine works fine for two small sit on top kayaks.

 

Should have added I have a 15' sea kayak and 16' canoe. Pretty long to put just on the roof of my double can but have in the past on foam blocks on factory roof rack, not ideal set up. Yakama bars and rollers now in canopy.

 

Yea, mine are only 9.5' and 40 pounds each. I also have a 12' trailer for the dirt bikes and ATV's. Wouldn't be too hard to build a nice rack system for it. If we go bigger on kayaks i'm sure I will.

 

Thanks again for all the advise. A dealer about 70 miles away emailed me an offer I couldn't refuse, 1500 under invoice. Picked up an Inferno TRD Sport 4x2 last night. It's a little cramped headroom wise compared to the CR-V I traded in but overall I really like it. Now begins the search for a Tonneau Cover and a quality but lightweight bed extender so I can securely carry two kayaks.
