Wired everything up today and although it doesn't sound optimal, it actually doesn't sound as bad as I thought it would after reading this thread. You can hear where the frequency falls off, but it does provide a decent amount of bass. I will be replacing the sub ASAP with a CompRT this week and my local installer said he would build a single 10 or 8x2 custom box for me after the first of the year for $300. This amp will be gone also for much higher quality. I'll definitely be going this route by the spring and shouldn't have too much of an issue selling the equipment I'll be replacing.

Interesting.....I thought SPL was a huge part of the competition as most expensive aftermarket car systems are loud as hell.

If I mixed a track that loud I would be into ear fatigue in 3 minutes and lose the ability to distinguish frequencies at a level needed to create a good image and balanced mix.

Frankly the scene has changed. You still get the big ass builds, you still get a crazy ground pounders but they are now introducing Clamped power classes in street stock. So for example street stock 1k clamped power is 1000wrms, loudest you can get on 1kw basically.

There is a massive scene is SQ as well but its tough, the SQ side of things cost 3x as much as these BIG BASS builds. Lets face it, couple big 15 or 18s and 10-20kw of power and testing.... done

My fav is Bass race and psyclone. Frankly, the only one a tacoma can really have fun with is bass race 129.9 and 139.9. I can bass race with my front mids @ 129.9

Oh I understand that, but for an access cab I don't really have the space to spare. While they may not be awesome for creating bass, they're certainly better than nothing, no?

That was the first type I looked into and got to listen to a couple vehicles with it installed
and I wasn't impressed at all at what it did to the stock system.

Yeah but it's gotta be better than nothing though, right? I really don't have options with the access cab. I'm not going to be that guy with two 12" subs in the rear of his tiny truck.

I honestly did not think so. The guy that did my system had one as well right under the passenger seat
and I sat in it for a good 20 min. and thought, no way I'm going this route and I'm glad I did as that is
all I planned to do. I looked at a few different ones, including the Kicker. Turning up the Bass on our
stock 3way front door speakers sounded better. I'm very happy with what I did.

In regards to component front speakers. Where did any of you guys mount the tweeter. In the stock dash location or on the door. I was considering surface mount on the black triangle section by the mirror. Any thoughts. Thanks

JL Audio clean sweep, expensive but worth it.
takes factory head unit and cleans up any distortion from it.

Dumb question but how does the factory speaker wires connect to the factory head unit? Rca or one huge harness plug? I haven't gotten into a factory stereo for years.

I am in the same boat with an AC but don't want a sub taking up can space. I can live with out one but would like some more base to the factory sound.

anyone got a pic of the back of the Entune headunit on the Gen 3 so I can see what I need to hook up subs and amp to it? Thanks.
