I can't really answer what I think your asking since my truck is a 2010. What I was saying is that I used the newer style trim kit instead of the ones that are made for the 2005-2011.

However, OP's truck is a 2015 I think and he needed a trim kit.

I wonder how the 2012+ or 2011- trim doesn't fit... they are both double din stock radios right? So why would stock trim wouldn't fit? It's not an argumentative question, but a question of curiosity. I'm upgrading soon my head unit so I like to know what I need to buy. Thanks!

Just finished my install. Not to bad to do overall and this was my first time. Love it so far. All I had to do was buy a wiring harness from a car audio store ( I didn't care about steering wheel controls because it's a touch screen anyway). 19.99 and crimp. Then everything literally plugged right in. Still havnt played much with it but it all looks awesome

Nicely done, sir! I too have a 2010 Sr5 and thinking about doing this. I have a few questions for you:
    1) did you reroute the backup cam there and how did you do it?
    2) what's that cable coming out from under your climate controls?
    3) is this a real improvement sound wise and volume wise over stock?
    4) what dash mounting kit did you use?

I did not reroute the camera. Don't really know how to do it. The cable coming under the controls is for the mirror link option with my phone. I want to make a mount where there change tray is. I used a scosche kit. I actually only trimmed the trim on the head unit. The trim that comes with the kit actually makes it quite a bit thicker and I could see issues with accessibility to the knob. Sound and clarity wise is better and the volume is about twice the stock Max. BTW I also mounted the GPS on top of the HU and it works perfectly. I'll be doing the mic a little later when I have more time and post more once I learn about the unit more. FYI though I looked tonight and it's on Amazon for 220 with free shipping. I paid 265 last week for it.

OP thanks for posting, definitely going to go this route. Amazon is suggesting a couple different models as "newer" price difference is negligible. Anyone have any thoughts?

A quick thanks to all in this forum and specifically this thread, just finished this install and couldnt have done it without you. Had been looking to replace the HU for a while (had the intermittent cut out issue with my 2009 factory HU) and this thread made up my mind on the direction. Got everything from Amazon, one stop shop aside from the connectors that I already had.

I have been doing installs since car #1 back in 1991 (Pioneer tape deck, can'remember the amp and two 12" pioneer subs in a sealed box that took up the entire trunk of an 84 celica hatch, my ears are ringing as I think about it) so I have a few under my belt. The trickiest part of this was the back up camera and steering wheel controls. Everything else was pretty much straight forward wiring harness connecting.

Used the scosche mounting kit and the plastic brackets. Had to cut about an inch off the front side of the brackets to get the HU to sit back far enough. With that, the face just pops in with no resistance and no gaps at the top or sides. Used the black trim that came with the unit. Had to cut all 4 sides and shave a little more to get the right fit.

With this unit (the same the op purchased) I didn't need the antenna adapter.

Used the steering wheel wiring setup that SRC listed intead of the axxess device. Save your cash and go this route, just tap the wires add an extension and connect the wires to key 1 key2 and ground. In the settings you can program the buttons to do what they should do or make some changes. I chose to set mode to be the eq selector instead of am/fm, I go from talk to music more than am to fm.

For the back up camera I used the link below. After some trial and error I used the pin method as he showes pushing them into the white plastic connector. For this wire i just used an old rca av cable, peeled off the video (yellow tips) cable and striped and devided the signal from the ground. For the reverse/back wiring I tapped the red wire behind the drivers side kick panel that is shown later on in the thread.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/oem-camera-connection-below-dash.30889/

For the mic I decided to put this guy in one of the dash plugs on the left side of the dash. Used the dremmel to cut the hole, cut the plastic piece off leaving just the mic. This allows it to just pop in the opening with no super glue needed. Tested it with the wife and she said it sounds just fine like any other speaker phone connection.

For the usb connection I went with putting it in the dash plug next to the lighter/12 volt port. Using the dremmel again and my drill press adapter for it I routed out the back side of this plug and the hole for the usb port. Used some super glue here to secure it.

I did use the bypass harness to play video while the car is in motion, not sure if this was needed or not and have not tested it. There appears to be a setup toggle that allows you to do this just from the HU.

Last but not least, since I was in the dash anyway, I intalled a dual usb charge port in the other blank dash plug next to the usb HU port. Again used the dremmel and drill press to route and cut the holes. I ordered this dual port with the other supplies and until I got the plug out I didn't realize that there are two different size plugs, why would toyota do that?

The placement of the volume knob is a little awkward but with the steering wheel controls its a non issue for me.

All in all it took me twice as long as I thought it would (I am methodical and measure 5 times before I cut) but I feel like the install looks as factory as it can and I am extremely happy with the outcome. Sound is better than factory from this unit. Still need some time with it to get everything set up the way I want it. Changed the startup image to toyota logo, the password was 126, googled it. Since it was late and getting dark I didnt get any pics, I will do that and post them tomorrow. Thanks again, could not have done it without you all!

    @tbone333 nice follow up!

Here's a couple pictures of the install on my 2010 with the 2012+ trim kit.

Edit: FYI it does take some modification to get this trim kit to work. I had to extend the lower clips on the dash kit to get them to grab into the holes on the dash. I used plastic weld and some chunks of zip ties to extend them and then made grooves with a dremel to give the little yellow clips something to hold onto.

Bluetooth is acceptable but sound quality is great. I have an amp so I can't speak to the built in amp.

SRC, How much of the trim plate did you have to cut out? And did you purchase the Joying harness?

I only trimmed the sides of the opening to make it 7" wide but I might go back and take a little off the top and bottom to make it fit a little better.

I didn't order anything extra from joying, just the head unit which I purchased off Amazon and I used the Metra wiring harness to connect to the factory plugs.

Mirror link and everything works great. However, I can only hear audio abut not see video with Netflix and YouTube. I can view videos online through internet with sound. Anyone know this fix?

Thanks, SRC.....be joining you with this same head unit shortly. Got the faceplate today, and modified it. Now just got to find time to install it, and try remember how I wired the 6 rear speakers.

How do you find the Mirror-link on it? I used Mirror-link on my Pioneer and found it cumbersome. Setting it up every time I got in and out of the vehicle became annoying(I operate a service vehicle where I make multiple stops in a day).

Joying unit installed! Thank SRC... steering wheel control wiring was dead on, never could get the swc working correctly with the Kenwood I took out. Bit of a challenge getting the brackets to line up with face plate, but had that issue with Kenwood also. Probably the best $275 I'very spent recently.
