Short Throw for TRD 6 Speed?

Is there such a thing? This is my 1st manual transmission truck...have had all kinda of Manual cars (mostly mustangs...) but was curious if such an animal exists and what quality are they?

 

Yes, there are several of them.

URD
B&M

I don't have any experience with any of them and they each have their pros and cons.

Your best bet would be to research all three and make an educated decision.

Thanks I did do a search but it seem like everythgin comign up was abolut modifying etc...

My 08 stang I put a short throw sifter (roush) and i loved the notchy feel and the throw was reduced from 7 inches to 3.5
I dont need the arm to be shorter just want the throw improved.

 

URD is the choice of many, I have it and it is great. However the halves that are on it seem to fail on some people's. I have had mine on for over 2.5 yrs. no problem yet. The TRD and B & M are solid pieces and are noisier, but you never have to worry about failure. Good luck!

 

The TRD shifter is replaced with a shorter shifter and has an adapter plate at the bottom for throw shortening.

The URD uses the existing shifter and adds an adapter plate and adds a piece on the end of the existing shifter to shorten the throw.

I know nothing about the B&M. A friend of mine has one but I've never looked at it.

Are the TRD and B&M as easy to install? are the Throws all the same?

 

They are probably all very similiar since you have to pull everything from the top of the tranny housing. I don't believe you have to go under the truck for anything.

I am personally looking for the TRD one myself.

I'm about to install the URD on mine. URD re-uses stock shifter which is 2 pieces telescoped between insulating rubber compound(reduces vibs and noise) and is just a machined adaptor. The TRD is also a good unit and replaces entire shifter but costs 2x the URD adaptor.

B&M is solid piece so works great but no rubber insulator, not an issue if you like it noisy and prob vibs like hell. My friend has one on his 1st gen. When he starts it up if your is near it hits you pretty hard and vibs like crazy. I also cannot find the B&M anywhere or on thier site. They dont even list Toyota anymore......

 

According to the URD site their's is easiest to install...But the "other brands" are mor noisey because they use solid shifter arms and URD uses the stock...I just don't care for the "loose, squishy" feeling of the stock truck Shifters.

 

Yes this is a preference thing, either you like the rock solid feel with more vibs or less vibs and little less solid. Good luck finding second gen B&M, I could not seem to find it.

 

Yes, URD is easy to install...and they still haven't addressed the failure when the halves separate. I have contacted them numerous times and NO response. Go figure!

 

where is the best place to buy The TRD?? It cost more but i want to be abel to compare prices.

 

there always dealers in the carolinas and in california that have had great deals on TRD parts in the past. I priced one frome the dealer last year $220-ish. My buddy had one It was great. I think it was like 35% shorter throw, quite simple install too.

 

Since it seems to be little under $300 everywhere im sure dealer has it for $300
Search for TRD quick shifter, but I believe it has the similar insulating construction(2 piece) of the stock shifter. You had mentioned you didn't like this.....

You might find it slightly cheaper on eBay.

 

The TRD shifter is the best in my book. It has a much more solid feel compared to the URD when you shift. I've drivin a truck that had the URD then switched to the TRD and the difference is noticeable.
