I just bought a 2006 Tacoma about 2 weeks ago, It came from PA and after I bought it I was told about the frame inspection recall so I scheduled it at the local dealership to be done with a few other pending recalls. Soon after I dropped it off they called me and told me that NC was not part of the recall and it could not be inspected or treated with the spray since this was only for the northern states, I explained that the truck was a PA truck till a month ago, no luck it still could not be done. I was just going to have to buy some undercoating and do it myself, I wish I would have looked closer when I bought it, but it was raining and who ever detailed the truck had sprayed the frame the black paint to make it look fine.

UPDATE - just got a call from the dealership, they said that they just got a communication and now my truck was able to be inspected and sprayed as needed -- we will see what they say when they look at it next week

I bought my 2006 in October in Virginia, where I also live, and had it sprayed by my local dealer in Richmond (McGeorge Toyota) in October, so far so good, although I imagine 5-10 years is a better timeframe to evaluate results over one month. I can say the stuff they sprayed it with has just begun to harden; supposedly it never fully cures, and is always absorbing moisture... supposedly.

I bought an 06 from a private party in SC last Jan, checked w a dealer at home in Michigan to see if I could get the "inspection", was just hoping for a set of the frame plugs. The Toyota district manager denied it saying it had to be done in the state it was originally registered.

have you tried calling Toyota, out of curiosity? I've read of people having more success at least with the rear leaf TSB process by beginning it through Toyota over the phone, and having Toyota arrange it with a local dealer of your choice... I hope this is helpful

So I checked again, this time at a different dealer, just got off the phone with them. My Taco TRD has an appointment for next Wed, will get inspected, CC applied and frame plugs.

Update, I dropped my truck off again at the dealer today for the inspection, just got a call, they found a hole in the frame, they have taken pictures and have called Toyota for approval to replace the frame. I was told 30 to 60 days for the frame to come in, they have offered a rental so let's hope Toyota says yes

I called my dealer the day after inspection and Toyota had approved it. So that part of the process was pretty fast.

More updates - its now April and finally the frame has arrived - I dropped it off a week ago and picked up a Rav4 for a loaner - It should be done tomorrow. The dealership found a few problems that I'm paying for - rear shocks, main drive belt and an oil leak on the timing cover - I'm paying them to fix those, the price seemed fair on the parts, and only paying labor on the timing cover part. I'll update on the truck when it comes home.

Bought an 06 in January and ran into the same issues as you did. Everything was painted black underneath the truck so the rust was concealed. After 2 weeks on the phone with Toyota they agreed to let me drive the truck to a Virginia dealer to have the spray coating applied. When they inspected the frame they found a hole and Im waiting on a frame replacement now. My truck is at the Toyota dealer in Danville Va. Which dealer did your frame swap? Interesting that your truck came from PA mine also was in PA for its whole life and made it down to NC luckily just in time for me to figure out the issues and have the frame replacement before the recall ended. Ive been in a 16' corolla loaner for 5 weeks now they wont let me drive the truck without signing some BS liability release form in case something major happens to the frame if I was driving it while waiting for my replacement frame to come in.

I had mine replaced at Toyota of North Charlotte, they offered me a loaner but said my truck was safe to drive until the frame came in, so I kept it until the frame arrived which was about 12 weeks. I've had my truck back about 9 days and no problems, it drives and sounds good. Good luck on yours and let me know how it goes

I took my truck to Scott Clark Toyota in February and it got approved for the frame replacement. I talked to the service manager today and they still can't tell me when they are getting me a frame. They told me it could be 6-8 months. Did Toyota of North Charlotte ever give you updates? I'm wondering if I took it to the wrong dealership...

I'm guessing your frame will be in soon, they ordered mine in January and it took till April for mine to come in - they had 2 ordered before me from December and they both came in during March. When I spoke to the manager for updates he also didn't have much to say, then a few days later he called and said it just arrived. I think 3 to 5 months is about normal right now with all the backlog of orders they have -- good luck
