What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Finally getting my lift installed. Its only been sitting in its boxes for 6 months... It's at the Toyota of Dallas dealership right now. Keeping it overnight. In the meantime they hooked me up with a Dodge Dart for a rental.

Made a walnut center console divider, finished with BLO, shellac and paste wax... I love the smell when I open the console

 

I just had my AC done a few weeks ago. 20% matches the backs perfectly and its just a shade darker than legal but you can still see in so I think it will be fine. Also highly recommend the "brow" on the windshield. For both sides and the brow mine was $70.

 

Cool! I'll talk to the guy when he comes to meet me tomorrow and will figure out about the sides. But definitely going to ask about the "brow". Not a bad idea to do.

 

Kind of. I asked if they had a loaner car service and they don't. So they have a deal worked out with enterprise that's down the street. When I went to enterprise and picked it up, they said that Toyota picked up the bill. I'm sure it'll get added to their bill in the end. But we'll see.

 

Got my HiLift a few days ago. Just got out mounted using brackets that @Bensonx made.



The base mechanism on the HiLift itself rattles like a son of a.... Going to have to figure that out as it is annoying as heck even on paved roads. I've seen some neoprene covers for them to prevent rust. Do those help with the rattle?


Also got a Smittybilt Hitch Recovery Point. Home Depot sold me a Reese Hitch Pin for under $5. The hitch unit is loose as heck. Lots of wiggle. The Reese Hitch Pin seems great but the clip to hold it in comes on and off too easily for my liking.

 

I would suggestion a locking bolt/pin because mine was stolen

 

Yeah I considered that too. But this is for temporary use until I get a Pelfreybilt bumper in a couple months or so. So not a huge deal.

 

Thanks for the tip re: source of the mounting brackets you are using. Also, I am interested in hearing about any solution you find vis-a-vis the squeaking Hi-Lift. Cheers.

I'll report back here when I figure it out. Ha-ha. Tried a ziptie around the mechanism but there are too many hinge points that rattle. It's a definite clank and not a squeak. The brackets are tight and don't wiggle by hand. The HiLift mechanisms do very easily though and it can be heard inside the truck.

 

installed my n-fab steps today. They were a pretty easy to install, held them in place with my knee while I threaded the bolts. The toughest bolt was the one right by the front wheel on each side. I had to use a jack to get the steps close enough to thread the bolt on those. Overall 35 minute install... I should have done it in the evening so I could have had a beer or two while I did it lol.

 

Needed to add a little spring to the rear of the truck to bring back a light rake. Dumped the overload spring and installed the Icon 3 leaf pack minus the small bottom leaf. Basically a homemade 5 leaf pack. Trucks sits almost an inch higher than the factory 3+1 kit, and rides better. Had to modify the brake line bracket...no biggie. Total load capacity will be lower, but I don't haul much or tow anything.

 

I was able to eliminate the rattling base by removing it and filling it with caulking. Then reattached (caulking oozed out the bottom) and let cure. I have no plans to remove the base. If I do, it should come off with a little work. Totally silent now, although I have one of these on the handle....

I have the BOSS kit by Toytec and I love it. Rides better than stock. Finally have my truck set up like I want it...for the moment. New house comes first, then back to play time.

 

I have a handle keeper as well. It's the moving parts at the bottom that are making the noise.

 

I run a bungee cord from top to bottom. It holds the base in pretty stable position and eliminates most of the noise.
