Anyone upgrading their 2016 Tacoma's speakers?

Do you by chance have a link to the mount/brackets or any wiring you had to purchase for the new tweets?

$18 Metra 72-8104 Speaker Wire Adapters for Select Toyota Vehicles - 4 Total Adapters

Metra 72-8104 wires, when using the tool to see if it works on 2016, it says no. Assuming that means you had to cut some wires?

Yes that is the front door, and yes its a 6"X9".

 

I got these made from "Mr. Marv" A member on here. You can do a search and find him or he may chime in. He did good work and pretty quick. I know you can also get these from *********, but I can't say stay away from them with enough gusto. They totally screwed me on these. Thank god PayPal stepped in and got me my money back. As far as the wires, the speakers still have the same clips. On the Deck I got the adapter and reverse adapter so I didn't have to cut my stock wires. I didn't bother on the speakers. I snipped off the speaker wire at the tweeter and doors and soldered the new speakers in.

 

The absurd response from Toyota when I asked what the speaker sizes were:

What were you expecting them to say? They want to sell those cheap ass speakers as replacements. Which by the way are not cheap. That was why I was real careful not to cut anything at the deck. They also will not honor the warranty on the head unit if they see it's been modified. They are not going to support going aftermarket in any way shape or form.

No. That is a lot of time, energy, and money to do something that will do nothing to improve the quality of sound in my truck.

Like others said, you need to install likely a better amplifier and speakers. I recommend going to a quality car audio shop. They'll walk you through what you need.

Just know, good audio is not cheap. The equipment isn't so much expensive but the labor is. You'll likely need to run all new wires for a better/more powerful power source. Then you'll need to create a space for tge new system.

If you place music high on your important things in life list, it is money fantastically spent provided you keep your truck awhile. I have a high quality Pioneer system in my truck. I bought the truck with it already installed but I believe it was about a$1,000-$1,300 system. Will do the same setup in my next truck.
My buddy is getting ready to rip the JBL out if his 4Runner for a good system.

 

The only people that should be shocked about the poor quality of JBL are the people around here that honestly think JBL is high quality audio because that's what the dealer tells them. I honestly think that makes the system more expensive is the amplifier and the sub, it's no shocker the speakers suck. You can have great sound and low quality speakers. Honestly the speakers are probably the least of importance for having good sound. A great head unit is #1 then #2 amp then #3 sub then #4 speakers if you have adequate power. Don't get me wrong, you won't have the best system in the world without good speakers, but as far as an average Joe updating his audio system, speakers are the least of importance.

Are you replacing your head unit?
You seem to be going backwards here going from speakers to an amp. Doesn't one usually upgrade the head unit, then amp, then add a sub, then go for speakers?

JBL is not high quality

 

I was looking for some description on these speakers. Carbon Fiber Cone doesn't really mean much to me. Does that actually speak to their quality of sound? Are they 3 way? 2 way? I went to the website and there's nothing there to describe the speakers at all. No wattage, no brand name, no descriptions at all. For $1k they can't put like 5 more words in their product description??

*edit* Ah.. there it is. Web page hadn't loaded all the way. The description still doesn't help me that much. 50 watt speakers, but still no brand. Also no 2 way or 3 way info. Is OEM its own brand? Is my idiot showing?

I have the jbl system. Does anyone think it would be worth it to just swap out the door and dash speakers for better quality ones and leave the existing amp and subwoofer?

 

Sure if you want better mids and highs. You'll need to get some specs on the amp to see if it will supply the new aftermarket speakers with proper power, or you could get a new speaker amp for the new speakers.

I wouldn't mess with it unless you are not satisfied right now though.
