Don't obsess about the grill. You cannot see it while driving and screw those who have to see it on the outside....

Live your life from the inside out, not the outside in. You will be happier and far less busy,

You could always Plastidip the whole thing, then if you don't like it just take it off

The emblem might be enough if you have some other black accents ... such as black wheels? If I do anything with the grill, I will also try the emblem only first. In person, IMO, the grill has more of a graphite tone than the shiny silver that photos depict. Or maybe I have been staring at it for too long.

Thank you everyone for your input...I have never tried plasti dip before so I may give it a shot and peel it off if I don't like it.

Yes addicus I have two GSD. One with short hair (on the left) is retired police dog we rescued.

Both are beautiful dogs. I'll bet that if the retired police dog could talk, he would have some great stories. I just rescued a GSD a few weeks ago. He's my 4th GSD. Had to buy the first three. I don't think most people realize just how much dog this breed is. Certainly not a breed for everybody. By far my favorite breed.

Not difficult. Took about an hour to sand, clean and mask. Just take your time.

I opted not to remove the grill for painting. Plastic grill tabs break off easily.

    A couple of sequence tips:

    1. Mask off the grill bar area you do not want to paint with 1" blue tape. This masking is to prevent you from accidentally scuffing the grill bars or emblem area during sanding
    2. Sand lightly with 400 sandpaper. You just want to knock the shine down a bit on the chrome surface. Be sure to sand inside each grill square for about 5 seconds. This is all about scouring the surface instead of sanding it smooth.
    3. Remove the masking tape
    4. Use a micro fiber cloth to wipe down the entire grill with 3m adhesive/wax remover or something similar to remove the dirt. This chemical evaporates quickly. Be sure to get inside each grill square
    5. Place wide 3-4 inch wide blue tape on the inside of the grill to prevent overspray within the engine compartment.
    6. Use 1" blue tape to mask the center bar and the chrome trim. Taking your time is the key for straight lines.
    7. Keep the hood open and mask the bumper, headlights and top of the fenders with newspaper
    8. Spray Duplicolor adhesion promoter primer. Spray a coat, wait 10 min., spray another coat, wait 10 min. spray 3 coats of satin or flat black Krylon Fusion with 10 minutes between paint coats.
    9. Pull off tape after 30 minutes

Once i had all supplies in hand, it took approximately 90 minutes to prep the grill for paint

Did you hand sand? What grit of sanding paper did you use?
