comfort of ride?

I want to buy a used Tacoma, but am very concerned that Consumer Reports blasts the Tacoma for comfort. Calls it jarring, jumpy, and says the seat is low and very uncomfortable with little back support.

Do you all find the ride uncomfortable?

 

Read product reviews for other pickup trucks. The tacoma ride like a frick'n car in comparison.

 

I have no issues with the ride or seat height/comfort. Have you driven one or just going off of the write ups?

 

at 5'6 I find the seating pretty comfortable. I keep in mind that it is a pickup truck though.

I was a little concerned before I bought my tacoma in March this year after reading those types of reviews, but what was I supposed to do, buy a freakin frontier???.... ride is fine by the way, after test drive, fell in love. I'm 5'10" and the seat position is fine. Does ride like a truck though.... but it's a truck.

 

Good here. I am 6' and can go through a tank of gas on the highway without feeling any back problems or anything. If the steering column would adjust out just another inch it would be darn near perfect.

I find it comfortable. Most people who have ridden in the truck comment at how nice it rides for a truck. As for the seat, I've done many long drives with no comfort issues. I went from San Diego to Rapid City South Dakota in two days (about 1500 miles). I'd say test drive one to see how it rides.

 

My 2010 TRD Off Road package rode better than the Camry that I trade in. I put a lift on it and now it rides like a truck, I have owned many trucks and I like this one the best, minus the transmission crap that is currently going on with the new models.

 

My last SUV was a 98 4Runner, and that had a very harsh ride, the Tacoma is great. Its big on the inside, I'm 6' and have plenty of leg and head room. The ride isn't extremely smooth but its a truck and I would say overall the ride is great. I'm extremely happy with the ride, and comfort of the truck. Seats front and back are good on long road trips. Great truck!

 

I drove for 10 hours straight a couple days during the summer; I felt fine. Of course, I'm pretty young. The seat was comfortable and the ride was pretty smooth.

The ride in town is a different story though. This town is full of bumps, cracks, and potholes. IMO it is a little rough. But it's not a Caddy, nor is it meant to be one.

 

Remember that Consumer Reports is a very conservative mag. Their car/truck reviews seem to be more tuned toward older, more mature readers. Car-like comfort, safety, and milage has always been their focus. That being said, if I remember correctly their recommended truck is an Avalanche, a bedded Suburban, talk about soft compliant rides.

The Tacoma rides like every other mid-sized truck that I know of (Dakota, Frontier). The seat can feel a bit low to the floor, but the trade-off is if it were higher then their would be no headroom. As for comfort again it's in it's league. Compare the Taco reviews to the other reviews of trucks in it's class. It ain't no car, and it ain't no car-based SUV, it is what it is supposed to be.

Drive it and the others and see where you land.

I don't really understand this. The ride is excellent for this class. And more over it rides better than any compact car out there imo, I'm not fond of that harsh/hard hitting feel over bumps that many cars have even if it might not produce the bounciness our trucks can. All my friends were complimenting me on how smooth the ride was. I will say that it was alot bumpier when I got it from the dealer who had the tires inflated to 35psi when the recommended was 29, deflated to 30 and it's much smoother and way more stable on the highway.

The TRD Sport rides a bit harsher/bumpier than the TRD Offroad fyi if that's really a big concern.


Also just one or two hundred pounds of weight in the bed makes it ride like a caddy.

 

Might as well add to the positive reviews here. The truck is very comfortable. Again, just like a car.

 

Our trucks ride stock is like a plush car feel. Once you put a lift on it feels ridge like a truck should.

 

The truck is pretty much a Camry on a more capable frame with a bed. Nice interior materials, good lumbar support, comfy ride with the stock springs. If you get the TSB'ed springs, it gets a little stiffer, but well within comfy. Kind of like the gap from an Audi to Mercedes.

 

No complaints. Mine is real comfy. And the feeling of the seat being low you get used to in a week max.
