I don't think Toyota ever made a regular cab TRD OR, TRD Pro or TX Baja but I wonder if they did what it would look like. It would probably better as a rock crawler than a Baja truck. Jeeps are beasts in the rocks because of their wheelbase and when I look at a reg cab I see the same potential. Dont have to worry about high centering, better angles, etc. May not even need a V6. I think 4LO, rear diff lock, ATRAC, lift, winch, armor and tires would really make a reg cab unstoppable off-road. Anyone ever see one or seen one built? What would it cost to convert one like a TRD OR or TRD Pro?

It will never be a TRD because the build sheet will never show the TRD package as being included. That said, there is nothing in the TRD package that cant be bought in the after market and with better parts. The TRD Pro is bullshit, pay it no attention. Its just a gimmick package that's totally not worth the price. Just order up a great suspension for your truck, maybe a tranny cooler and a tow package plus the stuff you mentioned then hit the trails. Maybe 3 grand in cost if you shop well.

I have wondered why they didn't make any trd rc's. An offroad RC would be a very nimble machine.

A jeep lol. Just like 90% of people off road. If I ever went short wheelbase I would either do this or a FJZ80. I want a 2nd gen reg cab wheeler because its unique and because Toyota!

OME suspension, ARB Air Lockers, CBI/Relentless/Pelfrey armor, HAM radio
IFS is still the biggest limiting factor.

I have a Pro. It's nice. Does everything well.

I've owned over a dozen Wranglers. My last 2, a 2013 and 2014 JKUR's were completely repurchased by Chrysler.

Everything broke all the time. Front and rear lockers, the transfer case, the rear ends, the traction control, the swaybar disconnect. The 2013 spent over 200 days in service. The 2014 spent 238 days in service. Both went through two engines. I was offered an outstanding deal on a 2015. I purchased the Toyota instead.

The traction control on the Toyota is better. By a lot. So is the efficiency, acceleration etc.

I am still considering a Wrangler. The new truck that is slated for release looks neat - we won't have to purchase them and make them a truck any more. Or maybe a JKUR...again. It probably won't be anything more than a toy though.

I like Jeeps. I've had them for a very long time. They just don't make the mustard. At least for now anyways.

Yeah, I don't hate Jeeps, I just wish they had the reliability of a Toyota. If Jeep releases a diesel Wrangler, with front and rear lockers, sway bar disconnect, different gearing options, suspension, armor, and tire upgrades as standard or as options and doesn't guzzle fuel then yeah awesome!

I ran a '94 standard cab (that's what we called them back then) V6 with 31s and it was a mountain goat. Even though the front was still IFS it was a very capable truck (wish I still had it!) Cruised all over the rocks in Southern California. I had a friend that had an extended cab and he ended up trading his for a standard cab. Once he locked both ends it was harder to keep up with him.

Coming back to Toyota trucks after all these years I was bummed to find the short wheelbase options so limited, but now having two not-so-young kids, a mortgage, and a corporate job, it probably wouldn't have been a very practical choice for my situation today.

It really depends on what you're wheeling on. I've seen longer wheelbased vehicles out perform Jeeps way more often than you'd think. Why do you think a lot of Jeeps extend their wheelbases? ;)

Jeeps are cool but I'm not sure on that statement. You have to sink a lot more into a Jeep than you do say, a Tacoma. They may go the same places with similar build levels, but the Jeep won't last as long. They have a lot of weak components that require upgrading.

And this is kind of what I was getting at as well vvvvvvvvvvvv

There's a reason you see people sharing these memes on Jeep owner pages, that's where I found this one. You don't usually see things like this on Toyota pages. You're not buying into quality, you're buying the name and lifestyle.

Unfortunately the JK just isn't that great. If you use the t-case (and it's nice, 4:1), lockers, and disconnects, it will fail. So in short, if you use it for its purpose it will break. My 2014 JKUR went through 6 rear carriers. For those that don't know, that means the entire locking diff was replaced 6 times. And that was just the rear end.

There are JKUR's that work but they have Atlas t-cases, Dynatrac axels, ARB at lockers etc. You take a $50k Jeep and put another $50k into and it works. :D

Take a stock bare bones 4x4 Jeep Wrangler 2 door, and a top of the line Tacoma OR short bed, off road both at the same time. The Jeep will out wheel the Tacoma in almost every terrain, slope or hill. Off Road. Nothing about how long it will last.

My 15 year old TJ has only had a water pump and radiator replaced on it. It has taken me places that I never thought possiable. It was built to wheel. I added a 4 inch Currie/ Savvy lift, 1 inch body lift, SYE, Currie antirock, high pinion Dana 30 front axle, armor etc. I hope the truck will last as long. I like the IFS, most of the race trucks at King of the hammers run the same setup. Just build the truck for where you play and learn what it is capable of doing.

    My TJ's were fine.

    The JK's are another story.

Even if it's a Rubicon you are going to get stuck a lot. The short wheel base makes obstacles such as ledges interesting. The stretched TJ's and JKU's are better at climbing and descending.

There's a reason we rolled them, and a lot. I'm sure if you look up Hell's Revenge in Moab or any similar obstacle ther will be no shortage of end over end results. Whereas I've watched Power Wagons crawl up the same obstacle without any drama - your statement is not accurate.
