Confused.....why install an LSD instead of a locker?

I've never heard of any vehicle that's RWD/4wd having a front LSD  I just don't understand what good it would be for...maybe improved traction on ice when in 4hi?

Because I don't really need a locker. I don't rock crawl. I just want something that will spin all 4 tires instead of just 2. Lots of people run LSD front and rear. Limited slip is great until you lift a tire

And I don't want to pay $1500 per axle for an ARB. And getting an auto locker for IFS is bound to break stuff and I wouldn't be able to turn well

If you want to spin all 4 tires, sell your truck and get a 4runner or a Subie

Or....do differential work and have a pickup that doesn't have open diffs?

Still don't understand the objective of this. Don't see how it would effect handling. Seems like an awful lot of work and money for little gain.

You don't see the objective of spinning 4 tires instead of 2? You've obviously never been stuck with open differentials then.

I have a Truetrac in my Prerunner. It was $469 for the carrier. An ARB would run me about $1000 just for the locker alone. An auto locker is about $569. It's a cheaper option, and I loved the Truetrac

You just said that LSDs are good until yu lift a tire....no I've never been stuck with open diffs. I have a locker and it is one of the best things on my truck.

They are great. Limited slip will transfer torque to the non slipping wheel, giving it power vs having it do nothing. The open diffs will give all power to the wheel with no traction, so the one with traction sits there and does nothing. LSD would be much better then open, and I don't rock crawl where I would be lifting tires frequently. This is a daily driver that sees mud and sand when I hit the woods to fish and hunt.

Either get a locker or pay for custom differential work because there ain't no such thing as a front lsd for a taco

It's not cheap but it beats a grand per axle just for the locker. I'm still looking to see if they make one. They make a Truetrac for the front diff with manual hubs, but unfortunately Truetrac has been unsuccessful making one for the ADD diff.

LSD is great in the woods too. It's when you start getting a tire off the ground that it acts like an open diff. That was what I did like about the Truetrac. A little brake and it would get moving again.
