If I were a rich man and could afford a custom conversion I would get a DCLB and have a manual installed in it. Of course that would void warranty but let's remember that hypothetical rich me would be rich and wouldn't need a warranty.

Well, while we are at it, lets just petition Toyota to drop their 3.0TD motor in the Tacoma. That motor has some balls behind it. I drove a hilux for a bit when I was stationed in England.

I think the easiest way is to buy a long bed frame and bed and do and swap frames. Would love to have a double cab long bed manual!

RIGHT ON, freaking power seats? like i do not have the physical fitness to move the seat with my own energy? I would add:
heated seats, power locks, power windows, touch screen anything, mandatory video cameras in the back, that #µ¢{ing black plastic shield over the engine block, delayed dimming dome lights, climate control... I don't want to take the thread off track so i will stop.
    YEAH MANUAL

(EDIT: .... ohh. was jmaack promoting power seats? or suggesting they get rid of them? sorry jmaack, i mistook your comment but i will not remove the 'like' ;)
I hate um. like i want to wait 30 seconds standing in traffic for the seat to move back every time my wife uses the car? I will go off and start a thread titled "old guys bitching about new features in trucks")

Toyota sells far more manuals than automatics. They're called Hilux and preferred by LEO's and para-military groups world wide

Yeah. The Hilux and the older versions of the Hiace 4x4 diesel van were AWESOME!!! But they made the 4runner and tacoma less and less like them so appeal to commuters in the USA.

They made (and still make as of a couple years ago) a truck land cruiser, not sure what years it was double-cab.

How would i know? the door is shut in the photo.
I am not going to research that, i have work to do.
I never even saw an older hilux that was automatic (older being no plastic bumpers and panels) newer ones yes but a minority. Not that i would flag them all down and ask.

I would find it VERY hard to believe the hilux in any configuration has a blackout on stick shifts even today. Unless they switched to an auto with paddle shifters. The reputation as a work truck and the preference of manuals by most non-northamerican consumers (especially in the truck world) I feel pretty confident that it will stay an option.

True it is more common to find them in manual. Most of the countries in Europe make it cost more for insurance to drive or own a auto. When I was stationed in England they make you have a endorsement on your license to drive a auto. A basic license is only for manual.

For those who are curious, the 2016 manual is a joy to drive. I tested an auto a few weeks ago then a manual Access Cab last week. Had plenty of pull to it and good torque low in the RPM band.

Maybe, but I think it is the other way around:
    https://www.gov.uk/old-driving-licence-categories
and see "The practical car test can be taken in either a manual or an automatic car; if the test is passed in an automatic car, then the full license granted will be restricted to automatic cars." here:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom_driving_test
If you pass the test on an auto you can not drive a manual, but if you pass on a manual you can drive either. Good reason to take it in a manual.

Road taxes are higher but being based partly on emission that gap might decrease as outomatics suck slightly less than they did 10 years ago, they still suck.

Taxes on cars slaes range from 20% to 120% in the EU.
So as long as automatics are slightly more expensive then 'slightly more' can add up to a significant change that might make or brake the deal or easily buy you a nicer car.

Europeans have smaller cars. and the smaller of the smaller cars are smaller than anything we have in the USA (loo up the VW lupo getting 70mpg). Many feel you can milk more power and control out of a smaller engine with a stick shift.

Ohh, and they have better taste than we do. and are better educated on cars.

You might be right on the the insurance, I will look into this.

I signed. I don't want one and drive an auto, but I have owned many manuals in the past. They're a blast to drive. I just preferred an auto in my truck that's all.
