I'll check it out. I dont like the rubber latches on the yetis. I can't see that being adequate for a proper seal. I seen some pelican coolers with nice robust handles and latches.

The carry handles on the Engel are nice (Heavy rope with good handles) and the latches seem to be fine. They seem to be thin metal with rubber overlay. They seem kind of flimsy when you look at them but they lock in pretty well and I haven't had any issues ever with them coming open even when the cooler took a tumble down a hill at the park full of waters.

Marc has a yeti. He really likes it. Think he's had it for about 2 years.

I do have a yeti. It's been a truper and holds ice forever (forever = 5-6 days in this case) if precooled. If not precooled it goes for a few days on one 5 lb bag. All depends what the temp of the stuff is when you load it up and how often you open it. The rubber latches have been plenty sturdy and show no signs of cracking after being stored outside for two winters. Not saying yeti is the best, just that mine has treated me well

Grizzly is another brand but just as expensive as yeti, I know a few guys with some igloo Yukon series that is a little cheaper, and work pretty well.

All the guides in the little canyon here in AZ use yeti coolers. Says enough for me! When i went with work for 3 days down the canyon the coolers kept everything cold! We had most of the ice still at then end. Those rubber handles work great, they keep even pressure all the time which is all they need to do.

Good comparison. I have two of the Coleman extreme. One like in the test and another bigger one. Always wondered if the Yeti was a better cooler. Apparently not.
My only complaint about the Coleman's is no positive latch system, although it hasn't been a problem yet.

I would like to see an abuse test. Even if they all keep ice just as long, the one that will hold up is the one I would buy.

Hmmm, maybe its just a weird fear. Most of the coolers use the rubber latches now so I guess it shouldn't be a problem.
All the guide services I have seen here use Yeti (hunting, fishing, etc). I always wondered if it was because yetis were the best cooler or if it allowed them to keep an image that they were a company that invested in the best. My guess is they enroll in the pro program (I will be applying soon haha!) and the coolers are heavily discounted.
I saw that. I personally have a Coleman extreme and have never needed anything other than more space from it. I just assumed it's success was partly due to me doing most of my trips when the temps are cooler and keeping the cooler in the shade. That said, I think my dad wants one of the high end coolers for the durability. Any ol' cooler will keep meat warm for an hour or so as long as it is pre-heated.
I have seen a few comparisons with similar results. Kind of surprising as you would think these coolers were all the same (similar to RTT's)
I like the coleman a lot. Not the prettiest but it holds my weight when I need a seat and so far keeps ice for 3 days (the majority of my longer trips)

How much abuse do you put your cooler through!? The most abuse mine sees is the move from the ground to the bed of my truck. Then it just rolls on into camp. Outside of hinges, I have never see a cooler not take a beating haha.

I have never used a cooler for anything personally lol. I was just saying, I don't like stuff breaking.

Hmm, well, kinda unexpected but I think I might be selling my tipi here pretty soon. I have been thinking about selling it for some time and getting a slightly larger one...but I didn't think I would go through with it. I might get the 6 man...or 8 man for hunting base camp/trucktrips and then pick up a tarp for solo treks/hunting. Really not sure what my next shelter will be.

Saw the new BFG KO2's on a ford today...that's a good looking tire. I used to hate the look of the old version.

Do you have that many people hunting with you? Or you just want more room?

No, I hunted alone except for the time I ran into a friend on the mountain and my girlfriend came out for a weekend too. The way they size these things is that 4 people could sleep in my tent but they would be crammed in. So you have to assume a 4 man is a 2 man, 6 man is a 4 man, etc. The 4 man is great by myself but I would like more room with the stove when I have the significant other around. Sleeping one person on each side of the pole gives you nice room but two people, side by side, with the stove can get sketchy.

Due to the shape of the tipi, the edges not usable for anything other than storing gear. I can stand up in mine in the center, but moving around is a no go. Put a hot stove pipe in the mix and I am going to have a scar on my body at some point .

I also use this as a ice fishing shelter. The 4 man is again, great for myself but soon as I invite a buddy, things get a little to cozy. With the 6 man I would be able to have the stove and a few holes inside with me. If a buddy tagged along we could enjoy the warmth of a stove without being side by side.

What size did you end up with?
