If I use the 5100's up front, do I need coil overs or can I just use the shocks?

@Dean724 did you lower the 5100's to the .85 clip setting? Any picture updates? I've got my 5100's and would like to get as much lift without having to replace new UCA.

Haven't lowered to .85 yet. My son actually loves the stance on his truck and plans on putting on an AAL in Dec so we're going to keep it at 1.75 and upgrade to SPC UCAs. .85 will give you a nice bump up front and set you perfect without needing UCAs.
Here's a decent shot of how she sit's now. The camber is barely noticeable and it drives great right now, but I'm keeping a very close watch on tire wear. So far so good.

I think this is exactly what I want to do as well. Would you mind sharing prices, where you bought, and maybe pictures once installed?

doubt if you get by without some measure of tire interference, the set-up you listed is really nice, but consider the trade-off in added weight and possible need for gearing(remote possibility),the lift will give you a measure of clearance, but I doubt if you'll get by without "some trimming" for an acceptable fit,i think that "lifting"in general, should put the widest part of the tire under the closest contact points for frame and body clearance and there by elimimnating interferance, consider a horizontal line thru "wheel center"that's your widest point,as the truck is lifted, that's probably what you're trying to address, the higher the truck goes, that area becomes less of a concern,as truck and frame are elevated...,also consider your factory wheel will have possible"5.5 in backspace, plus an amount of offset, that backspace tucks the wheel/tire combo neatly into the wheel well on the inital set-up,which is probably considered "optimal" from the factory, turning radius will change when wheel size, backspace and offset are factored in to your planned modifications.that's a great set-up you listed in your post, one that most would love to have, but I've seen a few trucks that had very little clearance between the tire and "uca",very little!and don't forget wheels, which i'll assume you've planned for...because I think that the "285/70/17" may not be recommended for the factory width wheel, lots of guys like the look of the wider tire, and some lean toward the "overland" look with the "tall/skinnies"...welcome to "TW",but do your research before your spend that wad of cash that's burning up your back side as we speak.

Thanks Road Dawg for educating me on lifting. This is my first truck and needed help to do it the right way.

no problem, you're welcome,imho... the idea is to enjoy the truck,if you're having to deal with your tires rubbing everything then,to me it it's not worth an extra 20mm in tire width...a wider wheel will give the "appearance"of more tire,an inch less backspace will sit them out more(be careful not to get crazy with bs/offset) be aware of excess in this area so as not to over-stress wheel bearings and some states have laws dealing with "tire/fender coverage"good luck and enjoy your truck.

DCSBFTMFW - Would you recommend setting the Bilstiens at 2.5 on stock coils? will this ride bad?

reason being, I just Bought Toytecs 1.5-2inch add a leaf for the rear and the adjustable Bilstiens for the front and rear.

    http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Rear-add-a-leaf-_p_16.html

Can I get away with using my stock Coils on this setup? my goal is 2inch lift with level front end.

I wouldn't run them that high personally. Some do, but the ride sucks and at that lift height you're going to likely run into alignment issues with stock UCAs. I know when I was at 1.75 setting on stock coils, my road manners sucked and my alignment was in spec. Darting under braking, following ruts and irregularities in the road surface, steering kinda wandered, etc.

Now I'm at 2.5" on lift coils and have the same issues but they're less pronounced.

There are others who have had similar issues with 5100s at 1.75, so between them and the stiff ride at 2.5" (I'm going off of owner reports as I never ran them that high) I would say it's a better idea to get a lift coil with a softer coil rate like an OME coil if you want that lift height.

Eibach springs will also get you there, but they're a stiffer spring than OME. If you have more weight up front then Eibach might be a good option, but if you are running a stock bumper and no winch and things like that, I'd get OME which will ride nicer.

I'm on 884X coils with no extra weight and the ride is great IMO.

@HeadStrong Off-Road can set you up with a good price on 5100s or on OME coils, if you want to go that route. Best vendor around!

thanks guys! good insight! i think ill go with the OME Coils and the Bilstiens, This will allow me to achieve the lift in the front without setting the Bilstiens at such a high mark right? .85? 1.75?

With OMEs I'd run the 5100s at 0 setting.

Let the lift coils provide the lift.

If you want to be level, you'd probably want 884X coils, and add the OME trim packer for the driver side lean correction.

so i have a question about the bil 5100s adjustable shocks up front. ill apoigize up front im coming from the jeep world so i havent messed with a coilover set up before. so with the 5100 set up up front you can adjust the coil perch to get about 1" lift up front but without changing the coil size you make the coil sit higher getting lift but not gaining any coil droop for flex correct? im only trying to go with 265/75/16 KO2s and just want a little more clearance to fit them. Or you could get the 5100s set them to 0 and get a bigger coil for lift while also getting more droop for flex? Im not looking for anything ridiculous like i had on my jeep just slightly bigger than stock and the 5100 adjustable shocks sounds like a cheap way to do it.
