2015 dclb Trd sport. Wondering how hard to be able to get the rear view camera to come on when I want. Is it possible with the new h.u? I just sometimes want to know that my gate is shut without shifting to R. Any ideas

It's not a hard mod. You just have to apply power to the reverse signal wire though a switch. When you put 12V to it the HU will power up the camera and display the image. I know where the wire is on the 2013 but not sure on the 15 so I'm not going to elaborate where it might be.

Its a bit more involved than that. You have to make sure the switched 12v is not sent along that wire back to the ECU or you'll trigger a check engine light. I couldnt find the tutorial but this is the basic schematic you'll follow. You'll need a SPDT switch with an add a circuit to get the 12V. You'll be cutting into the wire going to head unit from the ecu. A little scary at first but worth it for me.

You could but you'd still cut into that same wire. I've read where there are cheapy diodes out there which don't do their job after a while. You need a switch regardless, why not make it an SPDT? Here's mine, nothing fancy. I use it every time I pull forward into the garage so I know when i've cleared the door.

If osmeone decides to do a step by step write up of this mod, I'd be very interested for a 2014. I like the idea a lot.
