It's not easy being a Browns fan, but one special coach can change the long-term outlook on any NFL franchise.

In Cleveland, that coach could be Rutgers' Big Ten foe and Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer. According to a report from Chat Sports, Browns ownership is preparing to make Meyer an offer that would exceed every coaching contract in NFL history and an option for "small equity ownership" in the franchise.

Per sources providing Chat Sports the information, Meyer would have jumped to the Browns in the past—possibly as early as 2013—if he won a national title at Ohio State sooner. After winning a title last season, the Browns—despite having just hired former Jets assistant Mike Pettine when Meyer rebuffed their original offer—reached out again. With the potential for back-to-back titles on the table at Ohio State on the table, Meyer again declined overtures.

Virginia has hired BYU's Bronco Mendenhall as its head football coach, the team announced Friday.

The five-year deal will pay Mendenhall $3.25 million a year, the school said.

Mendenhall said in a statement that he was drawn to the "high standards both academically and athletically at Virginia."

Mendenhall went 99-42 in 11 seasons at BYU, good for 12th among all FBS coaches during that period. Over the past 11 years, the Cougars are one of only 11 programs to advance to a bowl game each season (including this season), winning six of those games. BYU won two Mountain West titles under Mendenhall before becoming independent in 2011.

    2. Derrick Henry watch: The Heisman Trophy front-runner has a chance to make SEC history on the Georgia Dome turf. Having rushed for 200-plus yards in four of the past six games, Henry has put himself in position to surpass Georgia legend Herschel Walker for the SEC’s single-season rushing record.

Heck give any decent back the ball every play and they would get Heisman consideration.

Can we have some links so we can read the actual article instead of your copy/paste? Or, just let us keep reading it on our own like we all do anyway, because, sports fans. You know plagiarism is illegal right? Should probably include sources.

I dunno about pruitt...he's a good position coach, but not sure about DC. Can bama just pay kirby more than GA will pay for hc to retain him, lol. Just cancel all other sports programs at bama and reinstate smart as dc....dreaming....sigh.

If Pruitt can keep developing the DBs, Saban will have enough input on the rest of the D to keep heading in the right direction. It's not like we have someone like Gus here, who has absolutely no concept of what defense even is.

Biggest reason I can see Pruitt staying at UGA is that he has a pretty big payout to send him walking. Unless I'm wrong that our AD doesn't like him anyway.
