Thinking about selling...

Hello all, I have a 2008 BSP PreRunner DC TRD Off Road w/ towing package. It has about 8000 miles on it and I'm thinking about selling it. I'm wondering what you guys think about asking 21K for it? Is that too low? Too high? Also, what do you do when you're selling to someone out of town when the vehicle has a lien on it? They probably won't feel comfortable just handing me a check to pay off the loan. I know I wouldn't.

The vehicle is in perfect shape, for those that might be interested. It's been garaged all of its life and is not a daily driver. It's barely even seen rain.

I'm selling it because I never drive it and I feel like it's just depreciating when I could sell it for what it's worth now. Plus, we're wanting to build a house in a few years, so the less debt the better. Thanks in advance for any input.

 

Have them get a loan from thier bank or credit union. Then cut you a bank check for what you are asking and pay off the current leinholder ex Toyota Financial?

 

Thank You. The only problem I see with that is the new owner can't title the vehicle until the lien release is received from Toyota Financial.

 

I beleive that is correct, sorry I dont know how all of this goes down. Is there a way that they could have the bank pay the leinholder directly?

 

i think personally that is a very good price. around here you would be able to get a few extra k's for it.

Thanks for your help and suggestions. I will probably try to sell locally first, so that I can bypass all the problems associated with an out of town buyer (lien transfer, etc.).

 

When I sold my tundra privately, the buyer had his credit union cut me a certified bank check made out to me and my bank. I called the bank prior to this to let them know I was coming so they could pull the title. Then went and paid off the loan, put the leftover in my account, brought the title back and gave the truck/keys/title and bill of sale to new owner. The key was giving the bank who holds the title a heads up if its local.

 

In Kentucky the vehicle owners holds the title even when the vehicle has a lien on it. The title states who the lien holder is and in order to transfer the title, a lien release has to accompany the title. I wish it didn't work that way here, because it would be much easier to transfer vehicles out of state. Some DMVs/Banks are weary of a simple piece of paper that says the vehicle has been paid off.

 

Just think long and hard before you actually do it... I sold my 08 and saw myself really missing it and bought a 10' just 6 months later. It cost me but I am happy.

Just make sure before you pull that trigger.

 

I see, yeah the states are different for sure, our title's has the release right on it.

Thanks. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that I want to sell it...I've tossed the idea around several times and to me at least, it seems like the right thing to do in my situation. I might buy a used single cab first gen 4x4. I have always enjoyed trucks that I can knock around in and not worry about every single scratch, etc. I'm so particular with this truck that I can't enjoy it. Haha.

 

Thanks. Absolutely the resale value on these trucks is outstanding. According to Kbb, the truck still books for more than I paid for it new 2 years ago. Although, I think those values are a little inflated.

 

Thanks. I try to think about what I would be willing to pay if it wasn't my truck. In some cases there is not much difference between new and used, so I'm trying to offset that.

If I could have found a low milage 08 Prerunner DC Off-Road for 21K back in May when I was looking, I would have bought it without thinking much at all !

 

haha...I hope a future buyer feels the same way.
