Realized today that the stripped lower I have sitting around is a virgin, so I'm gonna start building it as a pistol lower and build a 12.5" 6.8 SPC (ARP barrel) upper for it, and when I start the training for my new job I'll submit a tax stamp for a SBR.

Don't get me wrong, I really like my Eotech, but I hate the battery life on it. I have had it a year and already had to replace a set of batteries. The Aimpoint can stay on for years on one set of batteries.

Anyone use the Peltor 6S electronic hearing protection with the behind the neck band? I can't find any reviews to that style, only the ones with the "over the top" style head band. I love my current Howard Leight Impact Sports, but they interfere with my boonie cap with the over the top head band.

I got my Peltors for $5 at a gun show 6 or 8 years ago, but they're the over the head model. I can tell you they don't seem to have an auto-off function and they drain batteries fast. I would never buy them at full price - they're about the oldest set out there and I'm sure newer models are more efficient.

So PSA is having their Christmas sales, and instead of building the 6.8 upper I could get a 10.5" 5.56 upper for $190, BCG for $85, CH for $26, LPK for $50, and Pistol buffer kit for $30.

5.56 would be more fun for plinking than the 6.8, but I can use the 6.8 for hunting.....

Any input on whether I should just get the lower parts and wait on the upper and upper parts?

    I'm looking for some opinions....
My Dad "gave" me these two revolvers a few years ago and is wanting one back. I would like to sale or trade the one I keep in order to get a semi-auto for CC/HD. Based on my searches they seem to be similar in value (some examples were a few years old). Thoughts on value? What would you guys do in my shoes?
    Details:
Ruger Police Service Six .357 4in. I would call it in good condition
    20151204_224417.jpg
Colt Lawman Mark III .357 4in. I think fair condition

According to the big fat Blue Book of Gun Values 2015 edition,

That Ruger is valued at between $140-$400 with $400 being a 98%
    Colt is $180-$750

If you're going to sell one, and let him keep one, I'd vote for the Colt to stay in the family

Thanks for the quick response on the values.

That was my though of keeping the colt. It just seems like a better choice to keep since I will probably get it back someday.

Since your dad gave you the two guns to begin with, I'd let him choose the one he wants and sell the other.....

I'm going to make sure he is ok with my intentions before I do anything with them.

    I've got a question for you AR guys;
What rate of twist is the best all-around for mid-weight 5.56/.223 rounds? I'm thinking about jumping into the AR pool, but I don't want to have to swap barrels every time I pick up a different weight round. Most common around here are 55 grain, but sometimes the only thing available are 69 or 75 grain. I'm not looking for sub-MOA accuracy across the line, but I'd like a twist rate that will still at least keep them grouping fairly close.

I've had a Ruger Ranch Rifle (Mini-14) for a while now, and I can swap bullet weights pretty freely without the groups opening up, but I've read that AR's tend to be pickier. Plus, the Ruger isn't as accurate as a properly dialed-in AR anyway, so it probably doesn't notice the different bullet weights as much because the tolerances aren't as tight. :notsure:

1-7 or 1-8. I used both and both did just fine with any bullet i tried (55 up to the 77)

I used a 1-8 twist barrel on my 223 wylde upper, happy with it so far.

Two votes for a 1-8 twist so far. Any more in agreement? Dissenters?

I've built 2.5 so far, and never heard of the twist ratio until this summer, took me a little bit to fully understand it, and am still learning about it. As far as I know both that I've built have been a 1-8.

I've got a 1/9 on my 20" barrel. The bullet weight I run is entirely 55 or 62 and I've never seen a difference, but I'm also not looking for sub MOA. Combat effective is the name of my game.
