I know there have been other threads regarding adding Extra D-rings to the already existing bed bolts. I have also read every now and then people adding D-rings around the wheel wells for Bikes/Quads.

That is where this thread comes in. I thought it would be a good idea to get a thread going for people who have questions regarding adding D-rings around the wheel wells. Hopefully people can add pictures of their D-rings on the wheel wells and answer questions people may have regarding this Mod.

Let's please try and keep this thread as informative as possible about D-rings on the wheel wells only. There are enough threads about D-rings in the bed bolts already...

Of course.... I have a question to start off with.

I bought the D-rings off of that Army Surplus website and now need Bolts and a backing plate. Does anybody know where i can get a good bolt? I went to Home Depot but was in a rush so i wasn't able to find exactly what i was looking for. I found a Torx bolt here at work that has the pan head and is about 2" long. I only found one lying around so now need to look for another one. I've tried online stores with no luck.

Also, if anybody has pictures of their D-rings on their wheel wells, please post them up. I'd like to see where people bolted them.

home depot, lowes, ace hardware, osh, etc will all have grade 8 bolts, the funny looking gold ones. i would suggest using those. most likely overkill, but at least you know you wont have a bolt failure! also, make sure your backing plate is strong as well.

Glad you started this thread, I was also toying with the idea of putting a pair on the sloped part of the wheel well facing the tailgate, in addition to the pair I added to the front side walls of the bed per the Toyota instructions. The rings would spin down with gravity when not in use, and spin up when using them to hold items towards the front of the bed. I'm thinking the wheel well would be a great place as the curvatures make it stronger than a flat panel, and if the stock Yota ones with the backing plates are used it should be fairly strong for securing most things for hauling.

You can get a pair of factory D-Rings from Toyota El Cajon for $19.00 they come with the backing plates. Save the Army surplus ones for something else.

There is a thread around here about hauling dirtbikes where a member mounted the D-Rings on the top of the wheel well and had very good success with that. I couldn't find the thread though.

    Factory D-Rings:

I guess i'll have to stop by one of these stores after work. The bolt i found is a Torx pan head bolt that is goldish in color that changes color slightly. Probably the one you are talking about. Thanks for the 411.

Do you have any pictures of where you installed those D-rings on the "front side walls of the bed per totota instructions"??

Thanks for the picture.. This to me is basically the same as putting the D-ring on the bed bolt though... I need it so when i load my quad in the truck upright, i can still tie it down.

When my quad is upright, the rear wheels have to be forced between the wheel wells (because of the tight fight) so this D-ring would actually prevent my quad from fitting upright. I'm thinking of installing it in the indentation, up against the side wall by the cubbie.

    $19 x 2 = $38

They're sold in pairs. I got mine for 25 also. Any dealer charging more than that is just trying to milk their customers.

I have a pair coming this week from my local dealer, $22 bucks is good enough for me and I only drive 3 miles to pick them up. I was going to do the under the bed bolt setup but after seeing the above pic I may opt for that instead. I haul 1 dirt and either low forward location will work fine for me. If I haul streetbikes, wifes scooter or my trackbike I use my trailer.

He quoted you the wrong part. Please see the image I posted with the correct part numbers. I did business with Phil and he is a great guy. He gave me some printouts for breather locations.

    Exactly!

I ordered them and it was $19 and some change for TWO D-RINGS, they come in pairs, sealed in plastic bags. With tax I paid like $21.xx total.
