And they gave him a lot of cash! Hope he does well in SF. Giants defense ought to turn it around for him. Need Leake, and a left fielder.

i like that signing. Big park, better defense. With the WhiteSox it was the worst rated defense in the league as well as a catcher who could care less. Inside AT&T and with the infield he just inherited he should do well. Not to mention SF pitching coaches as well as team chemistry. He did not have a good relationship with Chicago White Sox pitching coach.

Greinke's AAV is right around 30% of their entire team salary last year. Wow.

I was not excited about Heyward. But I would have been happy if the Giants had signed him. Good defense. Not sure whose left they can get. Gordon? He'll probably re-sign with KC.
    Is Upton still out there?

Upton, Cespedes and Gordon all still available.

Im guessing SF signs Fowler and some scrap heap starter. Honestly a little annoyed they havent spent or done ANYTHING yet worth really nothing. I like Samardjiza but hes no Grienke.

Right, but 200 MILLION for Grienke? I dunno. After the Zito signing I'm sure management is still feeling it.

Pete Rose’s application for reinstatement denied.

Rose, the former Cincinnati Reds legend and baseball’s all-time hits leader, has been banned from baseball since 1989 for gambling on baseball while he was managing the Reds.

Because he is banned from baseball, Rose is ineligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Rose, who finished his career with 4,256 hits, applied for reinstatement this year for the third time and met with MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred in September.

In a letter sent to Rose, 74, and made public Monday, Manfred cited Rose’s continued gambling — on several sports, including baseball — and evidence that he bet on baseball as reasons to deny the reinstatement application.

Are guys like Big Mac gonna be inducted?

I still can't tell if the Jays are serious or not.

Letting Price go made sense considering his playoff performance and his likely price to stay but they haven't exactly done much in free agency. Happ coming back should help but they still need more help in just about every way for pitching. The offence and defense is fine for this year but they have several players that they need to resign that will cost big money and ownership has been very quite. Ever since AA left I get this feeling that they are going to let the team rot away and rely on the successful fever that this year induced in TO to get by for another decade of declining baseball. Maybe I'm just a pessimist but, for a team that is maybe a pitcher or two away from a championship if they keep everyone else for the next 3-4 years, they just don't seem eager to make the moves to get that guy or keep the staff to stay competitive.

I'm aware I'm jumping the boat a little bit but past experiences leave me worried about the direction for the near and far future.

One can never have too many light bars.
Giants starting rotation should be pretty nasty this year. Lost a couple really good relievers so we need the young guys to step up

Also after signing Cueto I think the plan is to start Jarrett Parker/ Blanco in left. Plus Blanco will will play center when Pagan gets hurt. Still would like another Bat if possible but I can't see them breaking the bank.

As a Giants fan I think it's awesome that were going after big free agents. The Shark scares me a little. Yes AT&T is more of a pitchers park but having a ERA in the high 4's wont come down to the mid 3s on just park alone. He said he's made some mechanical adjustments this off season so hopefully he can get back to his winning ways. If he does so, the Giants got a steal. Cueto historically has dominated the NL west with a sub 3 ERA and half of those games are in a hitters park so I really like the pickup there. Also there's too much fanboy bullshit with the "it's an even year" crap for my liking. All three previous WS wins the Giants weren't favored to make the playoffs and were underdogs in every single series. People need to relax and take it one game at a time. Too many people acting like it's a forgone conclusion that the Giants will be unstoppable. I'd rather be the gritty underdog.
