you gotta use thin coats... the first layer should look like you barely put any on and the second on out should be just a lil more than the first... basically what you are aiming for is when you spray the paint will hit the emblem and the body and if the coats are thin enough there will end up being a gap between the body and emblem so that when you go to peal the dip off the body it leaves the dip on the emblem takes some time but thin coats is a must

oh and time between coats is not a exact science because to many variables play a part in drying time with different paints but it does need to still be tacky when you apply the next coat and definitely not dry

here are a couple of picture one shows a pretty good idea of what i'm talking about with the gap between body and the emblem

Today I failed to attempt to rescue our work suburban. Too damn heavy for ol jumbo shrimp. I had chains on the back and my truck in gear with the parking brake on and it was still pulling my truck toward it. Oh well what do you do. It was pretty sketchy that tree was completely dead. But just the angle we had off the snatch block wasn't lifting the suburban enough up the hill it was just pulling it into the hill. Not a good situation but at least no one was hurt and the burb didn't roll.

How did they slide off? Looks like a nice flat road! Or is it sloped down a little?

I don't think that there was any other reasonable way that it could have been done. The pulling power was not the problem. The weight
    of the anchor vehicle was.
